    摘要: A method and system are provided for protecting an analog video signal sent from a video signal source to a video display enabled to receive a protected video signal. The method includes sending a string of bit values in an encrypted format from the video display to the video signal source. The string of bit values is received in the video signal source and decrypted. The string of bit values is then divided into multi-bit segments in both the video display and the video signal source. A common multi-bit segment in the string of bit values is selected for both the video display and video signal source. A plurality of analog video channels is then sent in a switched order from the video signal source to the video display based on the common multi-bit segment. The plurality of analog video channels is finally decoded in the video display using the common multi-bit segment to decode the switched order.

    摘要: System for protecting copyrighted information, e.g., video signals, from unauthorized copying. Analog red (R), green (G) and blue (B) video signals are transmitted from a source device, e.g., a display adapter, to a display device, e.g., a monitor, over corresponding analog signal lines after the identify of the destination device is confirmed by receipt of a certificate assigned to the destination device. A session key, used for encrypting the analog signals, is generated and exchanged between the source and destination devices after the identification of the destination device is confirmed. The source and destination devices each includes a pseudo-random number generator driven by the session key. The lines that carry the R, G and B video signals are changed, e.g., swapped, on a periodic basis as a function of the output of the pseudo-random number generator in the source device. The destination device, which has an input to its pseudo-random number generator synchronized with the random number generator of the source device, decrypts the received video signals in a complimentary fashion to the encryption. Encrypted digital information subject to copying constraints may be supplied to a display adapter via an IEEE 1394 compliant bus.

While recording per se is not prevented, the resulting recorded signal is rendered unusable due to an induced nullwobblenull between the active video and the associated sync pulses. The scrambled television signal is readily viewable on a compliant high definition television set which descrambles the HDTV signal using an encoded indication of the amount of wobble accompanying the HDTV signal. Also provided is a special interface to prevent unauthorized persons from using the indication of the amount of wobble so as to defeat the scrambling. Also provided are method and apparatus for defeating the scrambling method and hence allowing recording of the scrambled video signal.

    摘要: A video-scrambling system induces a random wobble i.e., time shifting, in the location of active portion of the video frame, without affecting the horizontal sync signal and colorburst in each video line, thus providing both security and concealment. The security is enhanced by filling in the gap between the nominal beginning of active video and the actual beginning of active video with a synthesized video signal which replicates the adjacent active video using a digitally generated filling pattern. Also, a random noise overlay further conceals the location of the gap. Additional concealment is provided by wiggling in time the location of the horizontal sync signal using one or two frequencies and also by randomly altering the location of the vertical sync signal. The NTSC digital encoding in accordance with the invention is simplified by using only two channels, chrominance and luminance, and by a heterodyne circuit for chrominance stability. NTSC encoding is enhanced by providing detail normally lost, by use of the chroma channel. Additionally, a non-standard video signal may be provided with a portion of the colorburst on the front porch of the horizontal blanking, thus allowing use of a relatively simple decoder.

    摘要: Video signals are sampled at 4Fsc locked onto sub-carrier phase and frequency. The active picture lines of each field are divided into 6 blocks of 47 lines and the active line periods of those lines scrambled on a block by block basis by line order shuffling. The shuffling algorithm is generated by a line shuffling permutator driven by a PRBS generator (controls 36, 38). Active line period samples for one block are written in unscrambled form into a first memory block (32) and samples from the previous block are read out in scrambled form from a second memory block (34) for transmission. The complementary process takes place in the decoder.

    摘要: A scramble codec comprises a nonvolatile key data memory which holds a key data varying from one video recorder to another, a pair of line memories in which input picture signals are alternately written for each horizontal scan line, a nonlinear feedback shift register which is initialized with the output of the key data memory to output dissimilar pseudorandum pulse signals for respective horizontal scan lines, an address setting circuit which sets, as the initial value for scrambling, a value corresponding to the output of the nonlinear feedback shift register and, as the initial value for descrambling, a value obtained by subtracting the output of the nonlinear feedback shift register from the maximum address value of each line memory and an address counter which generates a consecutive series of addresses beginning with the address set by the above address setting circuit and applies a signal for each horizontal scan line alternately to the pair of line memories.
