摘要:
Waste products from the chrome-tanning of hides are washed and then chopped in water, with subsequent hydrolyzation at a pH of at least 10.5 and at boiling or near-boiling temperature. The resulting suspension is filtered to yield a polypeptide solution and a cake of solids consisting essentially of chromium hydroxide. The solution is neutralized, dehydrated, cooled and filtered to provide a virtually chromium-free proteinaceous substance usable as plant or animal feed; the solids are washed, filtered and acidified to provide chromium sulfate suitable for reutilization in tanning.

This disclosure is concerned with a tannery primary treatment process that, in total combination, or as separate sub-process features, enables the reducing of BOD loading in such treatment, while increasing the efficiency of hexavalent chrome recovery therefrom by separating out alkaline sulfide solids from the normal unhairing beamhouse stage and utilizing the same to attain appropriate sedimentation tank sludge pH for oxidation of the chrome to the hexavalent state during incineration; and/or increasing the hexavalent chrome recovery by backwetting and roasting the ash again; and/or enabling use of such ash for recycling as a chrome tanning liquor with the side-production of an improved flocculating chrome water wash for waste treatment use.
摘要:
A process is disclosed for incinerating tannery waste solids containing organic material and chromium which comprises burning at least one ton per day of said waste in the combustion zone of an industrial furnace at a low temperature, preferably between about 800.degree. F. and 1200.degree. F., to convert at least a portion of the organic material to gases and the chromium to ash, removing the gases from the combustion zone and subjecting them to further oxidation, and removing the ash from the furnace. The waste solids include sludge separated from liquid waste, leather scrap, or preferably both. By controlling temperature, waste composition, or both, the chromium in the ash can be obtained in either trivalent or hexavalent form. The hexavalent chromium can be extracted with solvent for reuse in the tanning process. Trivalent chromium, with or without carbon, can be recovered as chromic oxide in an improved stable form for landfill, storage or shipment to a reprocessing center.

The present invention relates to a novel method of recovering and recycling active tannins from spent vegetable tanning liquors. Using a low molecular weight alcohol as the extraction agent produces an alcohol fraction or precipitate containing extracted active tannins, and leaves virtually all non-tannins in the aqueous phase of the spent tanning liquor. The methods and resulting chemical mixtures of the present invention have a variety of uses and applications. The method can be applied to freshly produced or aged spent vegetable tanning liquors. The methods are further applicable to dried forms of spent tanning liquors through aqueous reconstitution of dried ReTan, followed by alcohol extraction. The recovered chemical mixture contains recovered tannins which can be recycled through combination with fresh tanning liquors to form an improved tanning liquor.

The present invention refers to a continuous process for gelatines production and chromium recovery from tanned hides and skins shaving, containing trivalent chromium. The claimed process consists in an acid hydrolysis followed by separations of the various products, wherefrom three major components are obtained: gelatine from collagen, tanning chromium salt, used for hides and skins tanning, and the hydrolysing agent. The gelatines obtained can be used as adhesives in various industrial sectors, i.e. from the industry of abrasives to the paper and cardboard industry, to bookbinding, to the industry of dyes and plasters, to the production of matches. The chromium salts obtained can be recovered and reused in the tanning industry; the hydrolysing agent may be recycled.

Chrome-based product in a hydrolized proteic compound and process for the making thereof, comprising a step of solubilizing the protein-Chrome complex contained in tanning residues like e.g. the shavings and the trimmings, produced from tannage hide shaving and trimming steps, the fleshing, the limed pieces and the splittings, produced from pretanning processes, and the shaving sludges, allowing to effectively carry Chrome in the tanning processes and to recycle the Chrome contained in the wastes from tanning processes, directly making a product reusable in the latter.

Chromium containing protein materials are treated by processes which include the steps of: combining the material to be treated with sufficient water to effect the solubilization of the gelable protein recovered therefrom, and an alkali additive. The mixture is thereafter held at a temperature of from about 60.degree. C. to about 85.degree. C. for a period of time of from about 0.5 hour to about 8 hours. The mixture is then filtered to remove the aqueous phase, which contains solubilized gelable protein. Subsequently, water is again added to the resultant chrome-containing proteinaceous cake and at least one enzyme is utilized to hydrolyze the remaining protein thus producing a product containing solubilized partially hydrolyzed protein and insoluble chromium. After separation, the chrome in the insoluble residue may be recycled into the pickling or tanning process, and the essentially chrome-free protein components may be used as ingredients in feeds, fertilizers, and cosmetics. The processes of the present invention are used to particular advantage to treat wastes from the leather tanning industry including blue stock, chrome shavings, chrome buffing dust, chrome cakes and chrome sludges.
