A method and an apparatus are used for providing information about printing plates to be manufactured for a new production of a printing press. A point of use of at least one of the printing plates is visualized on a display. Several different positions exist at the point of use of each respective printing plate. Each may relate to one of several installation positions on a plate cylinder disposed in the printing press. These can also relate to storage positions of a printing plate magazine. Using the display, several different points of use in the printing area, for a particular printing plate, are displayed. The display depicts which one of the positions of use is to be provided. The display additionally depicts different states or properties of at least one printing plate. It may also depict a print location of a printing plate on a transport path.

A system, method, and process that determine and automatically correct registration errors between printed objects and mechanically produced objects using advanced image processing techniques is disclosed. Means are also presented for maintaining all registered functions to within very close tolerances during normal running, with other means for rapidly obtaining initial registration with substantial savings in material waste. The disclosed system and method/process are compatible with the printing and converting industry in which rolls of material are processed by printing a number of colors that require close registration especially in pictorial representation. These roll-fed printing machines are quite versatile and in addition to the printing of any number of colors on both front and back can perform any number of additional operations on the printed web at the same time. Some of these additional operations can be the punching of line holes, scoring, perforation and die cutting all of which impart a specific shape mechanically on the printed web. All of these functions must be initially registered to each other and maintained within close tolerances during normal running conditions. The presently disclosed registration system permits these initial registration procedures to be performed with high accuracy, speed, and across a wide variety of web materials and colors. The system generally applies to any web material (5701) on which register marks (5702) are applied, wherein images of the web are obtained (5703) and image processed (5704) under optional control of an operator interface display (5705), resulting in web press motor control (5706) to affect improved print registration on the web material (5701).

Label stock is unwound from a roll and passes over an automatic shut off roller that shuts down the entire printing process and stops the flow of label stock when it runs out so that a new roll of stock can be sliced to the old roll and rethreading the system is not necessary. A back slitter having a roller cutter cuts the desired height of the label leaving a feed strip between the label and opposite edge. The label stock is fed into a flexographic printer having a drum which imprints a first image, cuts the label to the correct length, and imprints a register mark on the feed strip. The label stock material is next fed into an electronic printer interfaced with a computer or programmable logic controller which imprints a second image upon each label. Upon exiting the electronic printer, the label stock is wound into a roll by a takeup spool or automatically dispensed onto the product or package.

The luminophores can be included in the printing ink used or they can be added to the paper material in the manufacture of the paper material. A corresponding test apparatus makes it possible to check the authenticity of the security paper in the presence of customers but unnoticed by them; thereby the invisibility of the test signal and the authenticity signal are taken advantage of and the test device is hidden behind a plate non-transmissive for visible light which however is transmissive for the test signal and for the authenticity signal.
