摘要： A pyramid-shaped solar collector is provided which is capable of operation in conjunction with heat transfer media such as air, water and oil. A pre-heater assembly is provided for use in conjunction with the solar collector to develop improved thermal output capabilities. Series of mirrors are provided for use in conjunction with the solar collector and pre-heater to provide further improvements, a first series of mirrors primarily serving to amplify the quantity of incident solar radiation delivered to the solar collector and pre-heater, and a second series of mirrors primarily serving to compensate for movement of the sun with respect to the solar collector and pre-heater throughout the day.

摘要： An integrated, completely automatic solar heating and cooling system for buildings is disclosed. The system includes a first and a second interconnectable cooling/heating subsystem each of which includes a group of solar heat collecting panels, a heat storage reservoir, and a piping network for transferring the heat exchange media, preferrably water, therebetween. A third subsystem transfers the media from one or both of the reservoirs to a heat exchanger which transfers heat to or from the building's heating and cooling distribution system. Cooling for the building is accomplished by using a fourth subsystem to chill the media in the first subsystem. In the cooling mode, the solar panels of the first sybsystem are covered and used as a heat exchanger, and the second subsystem, isolated from the first heating subsystem, is used to heat the building's hot water system and to provide building heat if required.

摘要： Apparatus for stretching sheets of synthetic material across rigid frames, such as those used in sunray captors, are disclosed. The apparatus includes at least one lateral U-shaped groove extending perpendicularly from the plane of an upstanding substantially planar rigid frame base, the U-shaped grooves including a pair of lateral arms with free ends and a central portion comprising the rigid frame base, the free ends converging towards each other to define a waist portion for the U-shaped groove, and first and second rigid rods disposed within the U-shaped groove and lockable therein, the first rigid rod including a pair of concave symmetrical surfaces on opposing portions thereof defining a waist portion, and a second rigid rod being substantially cylindrical and including a convex exterior surface whereby a sheet of synthetic material may be locked tightly in position within the U-shaped groove by passing at least partially around one of the rigid rods and then between those rods so that the sheet material is fixed in position between the convex exterior surface of the second rigid rod and one of the concave grooves defining the waist portion of the first rigid rod and between one of the rods and the converging free end of the lateral arm of the adjacent U-shaped groove.

摘要： A solar collector apparatus and method for a collector adapted to be mounted on a structure and connected to supply and discharge of fluid to be heated by the collector is disclosed, comprising a layer of insulation laid upon the structure; fluid carrying means for the heat transfer fluid, mounted atop the insulation and exposed to solar radiation; at least one layer of transparent material positioned above an air space over the fluid carrying means for insulating the fluid carrying means from ambient temperatures; a plurality of outer frame members having a cross-section defining an interconnection opening, a stepped portion to support the transparent material and means for attachment to the structure; and, at least one interconnection member dimensioned to fit tightly but slideably within the interconnection opening of the outer frame members and extend therefrom, whereby two or more outer frame members may be aligned by placing them over the interconnection member. The hollow outer frame members are equipped with a downwardly-extending flange and a spacer which secures and supports flashing to protect the collector from rainwater. An inner frame member is also disclosed, whereby a large solar collector skylight or greenhouse may be assembled from easily transportable units.

摘要： A novel solar heat and light control device is described for controlling the amount of solar heat and light entering an enclosed structure and for minimizing the amount of interior heat loss from the structure. The device comprises a first plurality of vertically-oriented transparent substantially flat members which are mounted with a second plurality of horizontally-oriented reflective members on the enclosed structure so as to form a "staircase" construction so that incoming solar radiation, the direction of which varies according to the altitude and azimuth of the sun, is transmitted through the vertical members when the sun is at average winter altitudes and reflected when the sun is at average summer altitudes. The control device is preferably mounted between transparent planar panel assemblies. Novel heat storing means as well as an improved ventilation system useful with the solar heat and light control device are also disclosed.

摘要： A solar energy collector includes an absorber and connecting pipes which are to go to a utilization installation. A cover for the absorber is provided by a first shell, which is transparent and has a peripheral flange. The absorber is carried on a sheet of thermally insulating material which is positioned over a plate of phenol foam. The plate is positioned in a second sheet, which may be molded in the same mold as the first shell and also as a peripheral flange. The sheet of insulating material is sufficiently large and so shaped so that its edges may be clamped between the peripheral flanges of the two shells. Joining members extend along the peripheral flanges of the shells and hold the edge portions of the sheet of insulating material between them.

摘要： The solar-exposed cover portion of conventional solar panel boxes are subject to variation depending upon customer choice, cost, heat insulation requirements and other factors, whereas the interiors of the boxes are standard. Thus, the cover portion may be a panel of plastic, or glass, or a combination of glass and plastic of varying thicknesses. The interior has a thick bed of insulation, headers and tubes all surrounded by a frame. Two different retainers are provided which may be attached around the side edges of the frame and used individually or in combination to accommodate plastic panels, glass or a combination of glass and plastic sheeting. The connecting pipes from the headers to the exterior of the box are provided with seals. By removing the retainers, seals and glass and/or plastic, the headers and tubes may be lifted out of the box for repair or replacement without removing the box.
