Abstract: A sound-producing folding insert for a magazine is disclosed. A foldable support structure comprises a primary page and a secondary page. The secondary page is folded upon itself to form a pocket that retains a sound emitting means. The sound emitting means includes an electronic microchip sound generating device that includes a switch means connected at one end to a slidable tongue mechanism that is attached at the other end to the primary page, such that upon opening of the folding insert by separating the primary and secondary pages the slidable tongue mechanism allows the switch means to close, thereby activating the sound emitting means. Conversely, closing the folding insert brings the primary and secondary pages together forces the slidable tongue mechanism to open the switch means, and thereby deactivating the sounds emitting means. The sound emitting means is relatively flat and includes a generally flat speaker mounted to the secondary page. Generally flat button batteries are included to power the device when the sound emitting means is activated.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for applying liquid acid to a treatment surface according to the teachings of the present invention is disclosed utilizing an acid pack formed in a preferred aspect by stencil cutting a supply stock of a layered assemblage including flexible, acid impervious material, pressure sensitive adhesive, and an adhesive covering. Specifically, a first stencil cut is made extending through the assemblage and a second stencil cut is simultaneously made extending through the adhesive covering while leaving the flexible material in tact dividing the adhesive covering into a central portion and a perimeter portion. The central portion of the adhesive covering is removable exposing the adhesive on the flexible, acid impervious material to allow securement of acid absorbing material thereto while the perimeter portion of the adhesive covering is maintained in a covering relation with the perimeter edge of the sheet for providing support for the flexible, acid impervious material. A pocket for receipt of the liquid acid is created by tightly sealing the perimeter edge of the sheet of flexible, acid impervious material to the treatment surface. The acid absorbing material absorbs the liquid acid and carries and uniformly spreads the liquid acid.

Abstract: A pop-out slide and a method of fabricating the same from a single continuous web of material. The method comprises cutting a web of material to define a through slot and a cutout, such that the cutout in turn defines a pop-out member superimposable with and shaped and alignable for selective extension through the slot, slitting said web into two ribbons, one ribbon including said slot and the other including the cutout and the pop-out member. The method proceeds by stacking the ribbons in a position for aligning the pop-out member with the slot, applying a seam of glue adjacent the slot and marrying the ribbon carrying the pop-out member with the ribbon carrying the slot. Thereafter, the method proceeds by folding over the slot-carrying ribbon so as to fully enclose the ribbon carrying the pop-out member and such that the seam of glue extends through the cutout defining the pop-out member to adhesively secure with a facing surface of the slot-carrying ribbon to the other side thereof.

Abstract: Apparatus for producing an aperture record card from a substantially continuous web of cardstock of predetermined thickness, each of the record cards having a shouldered aperture arranged to receive a film chip over the aperture. The apparatus comprises the combination of means for supplying a substantially continuous web of the cardstock and for conveying the web along a predetermined path. Means is arranged to emboss the web as it is moved along the path, for example about a rotating embossing drum, to raise a portion thereof above the surface of the surrounding web. The embossing means is arranged to raise the center portion higher than the peripheral portion of the web being embossed. A grinding means is spaced from one surface of the web along the path, i.e. peripherally about the drum, downstream from the embossing means and is spaced from the drum a distance greater than the thickness of the web but less than the height of both portions of the embossed surface of the web above the drum surface. The grinding means is arranged to form a rectangular ground area on the raised surface of the web. Means is arranged downstream from the grinding means to apply a layer of a fluid-impermeable material, such as molten thermoplastic, to the ground area of the web to seal and protect the surface of the web. Means is arranged to deemboss the ground area, and means is arranged to form an aperture through the web in the ground area.
