摘要： In a steering device having a steering lock device, stress applied to a base portion of a flange section is reduced. Relief portions have round corners formed where the relief portions meet the outer periphery of the outer column, respectively. With the relief portions concave by β3 from the mounting surface, radius R1 of each of the round corners of the relief portions can be made larger than radius R2 of a round corner of the mounting surface. This makes it possible to avoid interference between the relief portions and the corner at an inner end, in the vehicle width direction, of the right clamping surface of the steering lock device.

Consequently, even in a state where a reduction gear mechanism, a steering assist motor and the like are arranged in the middle of the steering shaft, a longer stroke of the impact absorbing mechanism in comparison with conventional mechanisms can be ensured, utilizing a decrease in length of the downsized or reduced key cylinder in the axial direction of the steering shaft 2.

摘要： A steering lock assembly that does not require tools for fixing a lock bolt cover relative to a housing to cover a cavity formed in the housing includes a housing having a cavity formed therein with a lock bolt received in the cavity. A lock bolt cover covering the cavity has an opening through which the lock bolt extends. A snap belt is fixed to one of the lock bolt cover and the housing and engages the other of the lock bolt cover and the housing to fix the lock bolt cover relative to the housing. In one embodiment, crush ribs formed on the snap belt minimizes contact between the cover and housing to minimize rattle.

摘要： The subject invention provides a column assembly for releasably locking and unlocking a steering column of a vehicle. The assembly includes a steering column rotatable about a central axis for imparting a direction to the vehicle and a lock bolt moveable from an unlocked position to a locked position to lock the steering column against rotation. When in the locked position, the steering column is prevented from rotating which imparts a load to the lock bolt. A lock bolt drive is connected to the lock bolt to move the lock bolt from the locked position to the unlocked position. However, the load acting on the lock bolt prevents the lock bolt drive from being able to move the lock bolt from the locked position to the unlocked position. Therefore, a release mechanism is operative to reduce the load on the lock bolt sufficiently to enable the lock bolt drive to move the lock bolt from the locked position to the unlocked position.

This device is characterized by the fact that the lock chamber 12 is passively secured against manipulative access by electric/electronic operating components K required for driving the motor vehicle. This is realized by arranging these operating components K in such a position relative to the lock chamber 12 that the function of at least one operating component K is terminated if manipulative access is attempted.

摘要： In a key switch system for a vehicle, a plurality of tumblers 6 and a pair of cylinder pins engaging tumbler engagement grooves 1.sub.2 in an outer cylinder 1 are radially slidably carried in an inner cylinder 2 which is rotatably carried within the outer cylinder 1. If a key K is correctly and deeply inserted into a key hole 2.sub.1, the tumblers 6 are disengaged from the tumbler engagement grooves 1.sub.2 by a code valley K.sub.1 of the key K, and the pair of cylinder pins 8 are disengaged from the tumbler engagement grooves 1.sub.2 by a tip end K.sub.2 of the key K, thereby permitting the rotation of the inner cylinder 2. If the key K is turned in a state in which it is not correctly and deeply inserted into the key hole 2.sub.1, the rotation is restricted by the engagement of the cylinder pins 8 having a high rigidity into the tumbler engagement grooves 1.sub.2, thereby preventing a damage to the tumblers 6.

A lock cylinder in a protective housing is mounted on the rear side of the head tube of the frame, in the "V" of the frame struts, and has a lock body with an arcuate recess in which the fork stem is nested, and has a radial bolt that swings in an annular groove in the lock body, between a retracted, unlocking position and a forwardly extended, locking position in which the bolt projects into the recess and into one of two angularly spaced longitudinal locking slots in the telescoped fork and handlebar stems, thereby to prevent steering.
