The invention is directed to a pill cutter that has a protected cutting edge. The pill cutter includes a guard, a base, and a cover. The components are arranged such that the guard slides over the cutting edge when the pill cutter is in an open position and the guard exposes the cutting edge when the pill cutter is in a closed position. The invention is also directed at a method for assembling the pill cutter and a method of using the pill cutter to cut a pill or tablet.

A sawguide assembly includes a set of sawguides positioned adjacent to one another to create an array of laterally-abutting sawguides. A sawguide biasing assembly biases the sawguides against one another. The array is supported for movement along a lateral path generally parallel to the axis of the arbor. A lateral driver is used to move the entire array in unison along the lateral path. A sawguide array skewing assembly couples the sawguides to one another so that the sawguides can be pivoted in unison about their respective pivot axes by a skewing driver.

This device comprises a frame carrying means for conveying blanks according to a substantially plane path and two parallel shafts (10, 11), which are mounted so as to be rotatable on both sides of the plane of said path and comprising tool supports (19a, 19b, 20a, 20b) for inducing a shearing between the adjacent edges of a cutting line during their displacement, in order to break nicks on the cutting line. Each parallel shaft (10, 11) comprises at least one tool support (19a, 19b, 20a, 20b) for connecting the shearing tools to said respective shafts (10, 11) and means for angularly (10a, 11a) and longitudinally positioning these tool supports (19a, 19b, 20a, 20b) on said respective shafts (10, 11).

A web slitter assembly of the type including a pair of rotating engaging slitter blades between which passes the web to be cut. The assembly includes a low friction blade mounting and special devices for accurately positioning the blades for cutting and loading the blades against each other. The accuracy of the positioning and loading is such that the blades can be driven solely by the web being cut without any external driving source.
