Also included is a second plurality of slits with there being a solid tab that is integrally connected to the body located between each directly adjacent pair of slits defining a third diameter larger than both the center hole and the second diameter defined by the first plurality of slits.

摘要: A wire chopper module for processing spent electrode emerging from an EDM system employs replaceable inserts that are also movable relative to the feed path of the electrode. Shifting the position of the inserts relative to the feed path of the electrode allows more than one portion of each cutting edge on the insert to be used. Each insert has more than one cutting edge and can be rotated and re-inserted to present a completely new cutting edge. Removable multi-edge inserts that are repositionable relative to the feed path of the spent electrode permit renewal of the cutting edges of the wire chopper module with increased frequency and reduced cost. The wire chopper module also incorporates a flywheel to increase the movement of inertia of the rotating cutting inserts as an aid in overcoming jams. Sharp cutting edges and increased rotational momentum improve the reliability of the inventive wire chopper module.

The trimming knife extends approximately transverse to the rotational direction of the counter knife. The cutting edge is a spiral cutting edge along surface lines of a cylindrical section that is formed by a cutting path of the counter knife. The knife shaft extends along the surface lines of the cylindrical section.

摘要: A knife holder assembly for a rotary cutting machine includes a holder with a top portion and side portion each including an opening, and an adjusting member with a top portion and side portion each including an opening. The inner side portion of the holder is tapered at an angle substantially the same as the side portion of the adjusting member. A fastener can be inserted through the top portion opening of the holder and the top portion opening of the adjusting member thereby moving the adjusting member in a direction away from the outer side portion of the holder to clamp an inserted knife between the backing portion and the outer side portion of the holder.

Fasteners keep the cylinder housing and blade housing securely connected and are aligned parallel to the longitudinal axis of the knife holder for easy access while in the knife bank. The fasteners can be removed using a manual driver without the necessity of removing the knife holder bank from the web equipment.

The rotary die comprises a plurality of die components (6,7,8) each having at least one blade (43-48) thereon for at least one of scoring, creasing and cutting a corrugated sheet (13) to cooperatively form a corrugated carton blank. With reference to the three dimensions of a carton (1) to be erected from the corrugated carton blank, the die components include at least one length die component (6), at least one height die component (7) and at least one width die component (8). By replacing at least some of the die components with different sizes/types of die components different sizes/types of carton blanks can be produced without requiring the use of dedicated rotary dies for each size/type of carton blank.

摘要: A rotary trimmer apparatus and signature trimming method are provided that enable operators to set a gap spacing between a rotating knife and an anvil at different predetermined sizes in an easy and accurate manner. The operator chooses the optimum knife/anvil spacing that produces a scissors-like cutting action on the particular type of signatures being trim cut and which does not cause premature knife dulling. The selected knife/anvil spacing is readily reproducable for future runs with the same operating conditions. This is true regardless of changes in the knife thickness as can be created by sharpening thereof, or knife replacement. For this purpose, a user operated control assembly including a control knob and calibrated indexer are provided. To keep the knife/anvil spacing at the set size during trim cutting operations, a temperature control system is employed that keeps axial expansion of the knife spindle shaft from reducing the gap size. In the preferred form, the temperature control system is a cooling system that uses a temperature controlled housing for the spindle shaft that maintains a substantially constant and relatively low operating temperature, e.g. 80° F., therein that is effective to avoid any significant axial shaft growth that would unduly reduce the knife/anvil gap size and cause less than high quality cuts to be generated.
