A polymeric heat shrinkable tubular sheath for mounting about a balloon on a dilatation catheter by heat treating at a temperature which does not detrimentally effect the properties of the balloon to shrink the sheath onto the balloon. The tubular sheath is preferably heated to a temperature above body temperature, e.g. 40

The invention is directed to an appliance for the epilation of the human skin, having a housing to accommodate a motor and a drive mechanism for driving at least one clamping device (43) by means of which the user's hairs can be extracted. Moreover, means are provided to reduce the sense of pain during epilation. These means include at least one element (55) that is movable toward and away from the skin when the appliance is placed in epilating position on the user's skin. According to the present invention, the at least one element (55) has a free end (56) and is arranged adjacent to the side of the rotary clamping device (43). In consequence, the user perceives at least subjectively a reduced sense of pain during epilation. Still further, a method for epilation and a method for the use of the appliance of the present invention are described.

A suturing guide includes opposing guide sections having openings for guiding placement of a suturing needle. In docking a dog's ear, the suturing guide is placed in position, used as a guide for a cut and, via spaced guide openings, acts as a guide for positioning of sutures back from the edge of the cut and with desired lateral spacing. The opposing guide sections may be supported and positioned by an included, spring-biased support assembly, or may be applied independently of a support assembly. Straight and curved edge guide sections and a variety of alignment and retention features are described.

An HME for a tracheostomy tube has a flexible outer housing of a gas-permeable material containing an HME element of discrete particles, granules or the like of a hygroscopic material. The particles are contained between the outer housing and an inner wall of a foam. The inner wall has a ciliated surface facing the end of the tube, which acts to distribute gas over the surface of the HME element. The HME is attached to a flange on an inner cannula by means of a removable adhesive. The HME may include a suction port through a self-closing aperture, which makes a wiping seal with a suction catheter inserted in the tube.

The present invention is a device and method for securing and releasing the distal end of a thin-walled sheath to and from a distal section of a stent delivery catheter. The invention comprises a stent delivery catheter system which includes a sheath which is releasably attached to a distal section of a stent delivery catheter. When the stent delivery system has been advanced into the body so that the stent (which is situated coaxially within the sheath) is placed at the site of an arterial stenosis where it is to be deployed, the sheath is released from the stent delivery catheter and then the sheath is pulled back in a proximal direction thereby uncovering the stent. Self-deploying stents will automatically deploy when the sheath is pulled back. Balloon expandable stents can be deployed by balloon inflation after the sheath has been pulled back. One embodiment of the distally attachable and releasable sheath utilizes a guide wire that passes through the stent delivery catheter first to hold and then to release the distal end of the sheath from a distal section of the stent delivery catheter.

Suture devices, particularly useful in endoscopic surgery, include a suture device made of bioabsorbable material having an elongate body member with a sharp distal end for penetrating tissue and means for locking the suture device in tissue to prevent forward and rearward movement and a suture device made of bioabsorbable material having a hinge-like joint for folding a distal portion at a precise location to be juxtaposed with a proximal portion for adjustable locking. Methods of using the suture devices for joining tissue sections, such as in tuboplasty, for closing anatomical lumens and for subcuticular suturing.
