    摘要： A method of applying a coating material to a moving strip of substrate comprising the steps of: (a) providing a supply signal from a controller to a coating supply unit to control the supply of coating material from the coating supply unit through a liquid usage detector and a liquid meter unit and to a coater for application to the moving strip; (b) providing a measure signal from the liquid usage detector to the controller to measure the flow rate of coating material through the liquid usage detector; (c) providing a delivery control signal from the controller to the liquid meter unit to control the amount of coating material delivered from the coater to the moving strip; (d) providing a heating signal from the controller to the inline heater to control the heating of coating material within the inline heater; and (e) providing a dispense signal from the controller to the coater to dispense coating material from the coater for application to the moving strip. In a preferred embodiment, the method desirably also includes the steps of detecting the position and width of the moving strip and providing a position/width signal to the controller to control the positioning of the dispensing of coating material by the coater head. The method also may include the step of recovering excess coating material dispensed from the coater.

    摘要： A method and apparatus for producing dual-zone lubricated magnetic disks. An absorbent medium is held against a selected portion of the surface of a lubricated disk. The disk is rotated in relation to the absorbent medium, and the absorbent medium removes mobile lubricant from the selected portion of the disk, leaving bonded lubricant in addition to a selected amount of mobile lubricant. In an specific embodiment, an absorbent tape is supplied to a roller that holds the tape against a surface of the disk, and solvent is applied to the tape and/or disk to facilitate the removal of mobile lubricant. Differential lubricant thicknesses are thus obtained.

    摘要： The uniformity of a wet coating on a substrate is improved by contacting the coating at a first position with the wetted surfaces of periodic pick-and-place devices, and re-contacting the coating with such wetted surfaces at positions on the substrate that are different from the first position and not periodically related to one another with respect to their distance from the first position. A coating is applied to a substrate by applying an uneven wet coating, contacting the coating at a first position with the wetted surfaces of periodic pick-and-place devices, and re-contacting the coating with such wetted surfaces at positions on the substrate that are different from the first position and not periodically related to one another with respect to their distance from the first position. These methods can provide extremely uniform coatings and extremely thin coatings, at very high rates of speed. The coatings can be applied in lanes with sharply defined edges and independently adjustable coating calipers. The pick-and-place devices facilitate drying and reduce the sensitivity of drying ovens to coating caliper surges. Equipment to carry out these methods is simple to construct, set up and operate, and can easily be adjusted to alter coating thickness and compensate for coating variation.

The tool is rocked about the face as the tool is drawn along the layer, so as to discontinuously remove parts of the layer and selectively expose part of the underlying surface and to produce a decorative appearance resembling heart grains of cut timber.

    摘要： The method for sealing a seam between adjacent structural panels significantly reduces the time for finishing a drywall in comparison with conventional methods, which use multiple applications of a joint compound to seal the seam. A drywall joint compound is mixed with a synthetic fiber, such as Colombian Fiber, or polypropylene, and sufficient water to facilitate soaking of the synthetic fiber and mixing with the joint compound. An optional liquid adhesive, such as liquid adhesive for vinyl wallpaper, or water-based liquid adhesive, is added to the mixture. The mixture is then applied as one coat to the seam and allowed to dry. No subsequent coatings of the mixture are necessary.
