Abstract:
A driving mechanism for operating a shaping die to join stacked plates by a deep-drawing and swaging operation is implemented as an electric drive, such as a linear motor or a rotary motor, which is operatively connected to the shaping die.
Abstract:
A paddle (142) of a diaphragm (118) of a receiver (100) is manufactured using one or more layers of a material selected for their inertial mass and rigidity. The paddle may have a layered structure with stiff outer layers such as aluminum and a less dense inner layer, such as thermoplastic adhesive. The inner and outer layers are selected to give an inertial mass matching that of an armature (124) of the receiver (100) and to give a lowest frequency bending resonance above a desired range, for example, 14 KHz.
Abstract:
A punch having wings is driven through framing members and then rotated. Rotation of the punch causes the wings to crimp the framing members together. An angular crimping technique where piercing members are driven through framing members in at least two different directions to crimp the framing members together. A fastenerless cinching tool pierces adjacent framing member and crimps the framing members together.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for transporting syringes containing radioactive material. The apparatus includes a radiopharmaceutical pig having an inner chamber in which a sharps container can be secured. The sharps container has a housing and an attachable cap. The method includes assembling the radiopharmaceutical pig so that the chamber of the radiopharmaceutical pig contains the syringe in the sharps container housing. The radiopharmaceutical pig is disassembled, where upon the syringe is removed, discharged, and then replaced in the sharps container housing. The cap of the sharps container is affixed to the housing of the sharps container, thus enclosing the contaminated syringe therein. The radiopharmaceutical pig is assembled so that its chamber contains the sharps container and the syringe. The radiopharmaceutical pig is transported to a disposal area, where it is disassembled and the sharps container containing the syringe is placed in a particular disposal container.
Abstract:
A polishing system can have a rotatable platen, a polishing pad secured to the platen, a carrier head to hold a substrate against the polishing pad, and an eddy current monitoring system including a coil or ferromagnetic body that extends at least partially through the polishing pad. A polishing pad can have a polishing layer and a coil or ferromagnetic body secured to the polishing layer. Recesses can be formed in a transparent window in the polishing pad.
Abstract:

The machinery includes (a) automated programmable machinery for welding vertical pickets to horizontal runners to form a fence panel; (b) automated programmable machinery for straightening the fence panel; (c) automated programmable machinery for washing the fence panel; (d) automated programmable machinery for drying the fence panel; (e) automated programmable machinery for painting the fence panel; and (f) automated programmable conveyor machinery for conveying the vertical pickets, the horizontal runners, and the fence panel from station to station.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are disclosed by which wooden railroad ties are pre-plated prior to use in constructing and/or repairing railroad lines. Methodology disclosed comprises placing two plates on top of each of a succession of wooden ties, temporarily positioning disclosed one of the two plates on each tie with a distance or spacer template temporarily clamping the two plates accurately to the tie using a jig, starting a field spike and a gauge spike (usually with one or more sledge hammers) into each wooden tie through the selected apertures in each plate, and further driving the started spikes into the associated tie (usually using a jackhammer). Typically, the field spike is located outside the field flange of the plate and is driven until the head of the spike is contiguous with the plate. Typically, the gauge spike is displaced through an aperture in the gauge flange of the plate until the head is about 1null inches above the plate.
Abstract:
A liquid absorbent base for a liquid beverage container used in the Food and Beverage Industry. A liquid absorbent wafer is provided that is secured onto the base of the container. The liquid-absorbent base and beverage container are used in combination as a liquid-absorbent substrate for cleaning up spillage and liquid condensate.
Abstract:
A positioning tool for repositioning adjacent objects in mutually spaced, coplanar relation, such as the ends of a so-called endless belt or chain, is used to facilitate their coupling/uncoupling. The tool has a fixed head portion for attachment to one end of the belt or chain, and a travelling portion for attachment to the other end that is to be repositioned, with parallel links to maintain the fixed and the travelling heads parallel. The gripping heads may be replaceable. A threaded jacking bolt connects the fixed and moving tool portions and applies the required jacking force. For rubber belts the attaching claws are inclined at about 22 degrees from the normal, to ensure grip and to avoid belt delamination. A range of tool widths and types may include provision for use as a wheel or pulley puller.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a fatigue life enhanced product from a plurality of workpiece parts. At least one fatigue enhancing operation is performed on a first workpiece at a first work station. At least one fatigue enhancing operation is performed on a second workpiece at a second work station. The first and second workpieces are transferred to a first assembly station, where the workpieces are joined to form a fatigue life enhanced product. Aerostructures manufactured according to the method may include components fabricated at different locations to have fatigue life enhancing properties, especially in bounding material adjacent to holes designed to accommodate fasteners. By use of the method, the final assembly step can thus avoid the necessity to include the processing of holes to enhance fatigue life, since this step has been performed prior to bringing components into position to be joined in the final shape or assembly of the airframe.
