    Abstract: A rolling apparatus is disclosed which forms a thin walled portion on part of a steel strip by allowing the steel strip to intervene between a pair of upper and lower rolling rolls, in which the upper rolling roll is vertically movable. The steel strip which has been pressed between a pair of upper and lower rolling rolls is repeatedly moved on a traveling table to upstream side and downstream side alternately, thereby forming the thin walled portion having a width corresponding to the movement quantity. In forming the thin walled portion, the steel strip is grasped on both upstream side and downstream side with a plurality of clamping means and is subjected to a tension due to tension imparting means, thereby facilitating formation of the thin walled portion.

    Abstract: A metal-stretching grip head has a row of parallel upper plates wholly to one side of a plane and having front ends and rear ends and a row of parallel lower plates wholly to an opposite side of the plane and having front ends forming at the plane with the front ends of the upper plates a mouth slot extending along the plane and open forwardly on the plane.     Abstract: A clamping assembly for a machine that levels sheet metal by stretching the metal beyond its elastic limit includes two jaws which have generally planar gripping surfaces. When the jaws are forced together, the gripping surfaces on them bear against the sheet metal with enough frictional contact to enable a stretching force to be applied to the sheet metal. One of the jaws includes a bearing block and a gripping pad located along the bearing block, with the gripping surface for that jaw being on the pad. A shim that is narrower than the pad lies between the pad and the bearing block. When the pad is forced against the sheet metal, the shim behind that pad causes the pad to assume a slight contour that imparts convexity to its gripping surface. This concentrates the gripping force at the centers of the gripping surfaces on the two jaws, so that perceptible indentations do not develop in the strip at the side edges of the gripping surfaces.

    Abstract: The present invention is an element for gripping metal to be stretched by a stretcher leveler apparatus. The gripping element includes a first and preferably a second high density cast polyurethane gripping pad adapted for engagement with the metal to be stretched and a support member which can be a rectangular plate upon which the first and second gripping pads are operatively anchored. The support member having two pads is detachably mounted to the stretcher leveler apparatus either in a first orientation in which the first pad is positioned for engagement with the metal to be stretched or a second orientation in which the second pad is positioned for engagement with the metal to be stretched. Preferably, the support member is a plate having a first support surface upon which the first gripping pad is chemically bonded and a second support surface upon which the second gripping pad is chemically bonded. The support surfaces are disposed on opposite sides of the plate and in a parallel relationship. The gripping pads are preferably cast in situ on the support member. Preferably, at least one threaded hole is disposed at either end of the support member for allowing attachment to the stretcher leveler apparatus with threaded fasteners.
