    摘要: An axle assembly is provided that includes a tubular member having an outer wall and an interior cavity. The other wall includes a first interlocking feature. An axle component mounting member, such as a bearing shoulder sleeve and/or a brake flange, is arranged on a portion of the outer wall. The mounting member includes a second interlocking feature coacting with the first interlocking feature to affix the mounting member and tubular member to one anther. The axle assembly may be formed by arranging the axle mounting member into a die assembly. A tubular member may be arranged in the die assembly within an opening in the mounting member. A hydroforming process may be employed to pressurize a cavity within the tubular member. A portion of the tubular member is deformed into engagement with the mounting member to affix the mounting member to the tubular member.

    摘要: The invention related to a process for producing pipes, especially large pipes, as per the UOE process, wherein the pipes, after internal and external seam welding, are incrementally calibrated by cold expansion up to half the pipe length. The cold expansion is also used for straightening. For this purpose, the pipe is clamped at the shortest possible distance in front of the expander head, the free pipe end is flexibley deformed, and the pipe is then cold expanded in a known manner. The prestress force thereby decreases and then, after the release of the clamping and the remaining prestress, the pipe moves incrementally by the amount of the expander step width, up to half the pipe length. The process is then repeated for the second pipe half.

    摘要: A blow molding method for use with tubular metal work pieces. The method involves placing a tubular metal component part into a molding tool having an internal molding cavity and at least one access passageway into which the component is inserted. The molding tool is then heated to a temperature between about 1000° F. and 1200° F. and a high pressure gas is injected into the tubular component. The high pressure gas causes the portion of the work component residing within the internal mold cavity of the molding tool to expand and assume the shape of the internal molding cavity. After a cooling period, the component is removed from the molding tool. The process is particularly well suited for forming the end support portions of side rails used with vehicle article carriers, but can be used to form a wide variety of complexly shaped forms from tubular metal workpieces.
