Abstract:
A shave tool holder for use with an automatic screw machine and for machining a rotatably driven workpiece. The tool holder includes a shank engageable with the screw machine and for providing reciprocating motion of the shave tool holder. A dovetail shaped recess is defined within a forward mounting portion of the shank and a corresponding dovetail shaped projection in an opposing surface of the body in order to engage the body with the shank in a vertically deflectable and adjustable manner. A roller is secured in vertically adjustable fashion to a forward facing location of the body. A tool post is releasably secured to the body, through aligning apertures formed in the body and the tool post, a mounting bolt inserting through the aligning apertures for securing the tool post to the body. A cutting insert is secured upon the tool post in a desired spaced relationship relative to the roller and so that the rotatably driven workpiece is adapted to being received between the roller and the insert.
Abstract:
A process for cutting machining of rotating rotationally symmetrical workpieces with a defined cutting edge, wherein the resulting rotationally symmetrical surface has either no twist or a twist which is only insignificant in terms of transport effect and abrasive action and/or when machining the hardened workpiece surfaces a particularly high material removal rate can be achieved, wherein a cutting edge which is askew with respect to the axis of rotation of the workpiece is guided in contacting relationship along the rotating workpiece in a linear feed movement transversely with respect to the axis of rotation, wherein the machining parameters, in particular the broaching feed and the inclined positioning of the cutting edge are so selected that the twist occurring at the machined surface becomes a minimum in respect of twist pitch and/or twist depth and in particular the twist depth becomes a minimum.
Abstract:
An insert for turning of titanium is provided. By using inserts with a reduced length of primary land compared to prior art an unexpected increase in tool life and productivity has been obtained. Said positive results are further improved by subjecting the inserts to an additional heat treatment after grinding to final shape and dimension.
Abstract:
The chip removing machining of a workpiece is performed by a cutting tool which includes a cutting insert. In order to cool the cutting insert, one or more over-cooling nozzles is arranged for directing a jet of cooling liquid downwardly toward a contact area between the workpiece and a chip surface of the cutting insert. A sub-cooling nozzle is arranged for directing a jet of cooling liquid upwardly toward a contact area between the workpiece and a flank surface of the cutting insert. A jet of cooling liquid can be emitted from only the over-cooling nozzle, or from only the sub-cooling nozzle, or from both of those nozzles simultaneously.
Abstract:
In a die board for cutting and/or creasing sheet-type work material, a base is provided that includes a first upper surface and a second lower surface. At least one slot extends along the first upper surface and includes a first slot section extending from said first upper surface at least part-way through the die board base. The at least one slot also includes a second slot section extending from said second lower surface at least part-way through the die board base. The first and second slot sections each have a width with at least one of the slot section widths being adapted to grip and retain at least one die-board rule.
Abstract:
A centering apparatus for centering a disk about a center member such as a shaft or hub includes a plurality of pairs of actuator units. The actuator units of each of the pairs faces each other through the disk. Each of the actuator units has a member which moves linearly and can come into contact with the disk.
Abstract:
A method for cuffing or hard turning the surface of a workpiece comprising using a cutting tool in which a cooling fluid is supplied to the cutting area by means of at least one jet nozzle. The cooling fluid is supplied as a jet with high pressure leaving the jet nozzle with a pressure above 60 bar.
Abstract:
An improved spindle assembly (23) is adapted to be mounted in an opening (22) provided on a rotatable head (20) of a multi-spindle machine tool. The improved spindle assembly includes a tubular main spindle part (26) that is adapted to be inserted into the head opening and having a first abutment surface (42), a bearing retainer (27) adapted to be threaded into engagement with the head and having a second abutment surface (55) arranged to face toward the first abutment surface, at least one bearing (28) positioned radially between the head and spindle main part, and being arranged axially between the first and second abutment surfaces, and a retaining nut (29) adapted to be threaded into engagement with the spindle main part so as to form therewith an assembled spindle.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for forming an undercut hole. The apparatus includes a shaping means attached to a shaft for causing the shaping means to rotate. The shaping means is forced into an initial hole in a piece of material. The rotation of the shaping means causes an undercut hole to be formed at the location of the distal end of the initial hole.
Abstract:
A cutting tool piece is provided including a rear portion and a lead portion, the lead portion including a front section having an upper side angled downwardly and forwardly and a lower side angled upwardly and forwardly to form a transverse lead cutting edge. The rear portion includes a hole to secure the tool piece to a cutting tool and transverse cutting edges extending outwardly from side walls of the front section. A system is also described for cutting a bowl by coring out an interior portion of a wood block by applying the cutting tool which is curved and rotatably mounted to a post. Its lead end with the tool piece attached creates a circular groove. The cutting tool is advanced on a path which curves toward the central axis of the lathe.
