摘要: An electrical discharge machine having an electrode and workpiece contained within a dielectric-filled machining tank for machining in response to the application of discharge current. One or more auxiliary tanks that contain additional dielectric fluid are connected to the machining tank by a plurality of fluid flow paths that contain various combinations of filters, valves and pumps. The filters may be of different filtering capacity for serving different machining operations, e.g., roughing and finishing. The operation of the valves to provide filtering appropriate to the current machining conditions is based on detected or predetermined machining conditions such as sludge grain diameter, fluid pressure, sludge quantity, electrode and workpiece material composition and discharge current levels.

摘要: There are provided an electrolytic processing apparatus and an electrolytic processing method which can regenerate an ion exchanger with an enhanced regeneration rate of ion-exchange capacity without adversely affecting the throughput of the apparatus. The electrolytic processing apparatus includes: a holder for holding a workpiece; an electrode section including an electrode, a contact member, and a discharge portion for discharging metal ions which have been taken from the workpiece into the contact member during processing, said electrode section coming close to or into contact with the workpiece held by the holder to effect processing of the workpiece in the presence of a liquid; and a regeneration dummy electrode which can come close to or into contact with the contact member.

摘要: A method of machining a work-piece formed of titanium-based material, using a machining apparatus, is described. The method includes the steps of providing an electrically-conductive electrode contained within a spindle assembly, in a pre-selected distance and position relative to the titanium-based work-piece; while electrically powering the electrode and the work-piece with a power supply. In the process, fluid electrolyte is circulated through at least two pathways in the machining apparatus—an internal conduit within the spindle assembly; and an external conduit. The charged electrode is moved relative to the work-piece in a plunging motion, to remove material from the work-piece at a relatively high rate, using a high-speed electro-erosion (HSEE) process.

The apparatus includes a platen assembly having a surface for supporting a processing pad and disposed on a stationary base so that the platen assembly may rotate relative to the base; and an air knife coupled to the base and extended over a portion of the surface, the air knife operable to deliver a stream of air toward the pad to divert at least a portion of a fluid disposed on the pad toward a center of the pad.

摘要: A method for electrochemical machining a workpiece utilizing an electrolyte that is passivating to the workpiece, wherein the conductive tool is provided with a nonconductive abrasive surface, and said tool and workpiece are brought together with a contacting relative motion so that said abrasive surface will selectively abrade the workpiece to remove any passivation layer therefrom in those areas to be machined and such that the unabraded surface areas will retain the passivation layer to prevent electrochemical machining thereof, and a reciprocally motion between the tool and workpiece is also effected to pump the electrolyte through the gap between the tool and workpiece and prevent it from becoming over-heated.
