摘要： An improved cardboard box erecting machine for receiving stacks of folded cardboard boxes, and for opening the boxes and folding and/or securing the bottom flaps thereof.The various steps in erecting the cardboard box are each accomplished at a plurality of individual stations in the automatic erector, thereby allowing maximum throughput by minimizing the operations at any station prior to movement of the box to the next station. The erector includes numerous adjustments, including an adjustment in the longitudinal position of the lateral flap folding mechanism to provide the desired operation thereof regardless of the size of boxes being erected.

摘要： An apparatus for setting up folded cartons in which a frame has a folded carton magazine attached thereto adjacent a carton conveyor. A carton set-up station is mounted at one end of the conveyor adjacent the magazine, and the bottom carton in the magazine is grasped by suction cups and moved to the set-up station. The carton is set-up in the set-up station and fed to the conveyor as the minor flaps are folded, glued, and the major flaps folded, and finally, the major and minor flaps compressed for the glue to dry and the carton discharged.

摘要： An apparatus for setting up cartons, including a magazine that holds a horizontal stack of vertically oriented collapsed cartons. A receiving station accepts the cartons as they are fed thereto from the magazine by a moving conveyor lug and pushing bracket. Stationary vacuum cups and cooperative moving vacuum cups engage opposed panels of each carton and expand it to a rectangular open configuration laterally adjacent to the receiving station. A vertically moveable trough initially receives the collapsed carton at the receiving station and is subsequently moved downwardly clear of the carton prior to expansion. The lower rear flap of each carton is engaged by an inclined pushing element upon carton expansion, and the carton is subsequently pushed forwardly as the rear flap and a subsequently engaged front flap are bent to horizontal positions inward of the carton. Each carton is subsequently received between moving belt flights and carried through guide rods that fold the side flaps. The cartons are delivered to a horizontal receiving table where a vertical mandrel exerts pressure on the bottom flaps to secure an adhesive bond between them.

摘要： An improved gate assembly for the carton blank magazine of a packaging machine includes a frame fixedly mounted on the magazine. The frame has a longitudinal opening formed therein for permitting the passage of a single carton blank therethrough. The frame has air ducts extending therethrough and receiving members extending from the air ducts. Each of the receiving members has at least one slot formed in the surface thereof facing the magazine. Each of the receiving members also has an interior channel formed therein for communicating air between the slots and the respective air duct. In operation, negative air pressure applied to the air ducts induces a carton blank from the magazine into contact with the receiving members.

摘要： An elongated carton supporting rail is mounted on a frame along with means for guiding an opened-out upright carbon blank to a predetermined position, with the edges of its bottom minor flaps resting on the rail. Flap closing elements automatically engage the bottom minor and major flaps of the carton in sequence immediately following the engagement of the carton with a switch lever when the carton is in the proper position on the rail. The minor flaps are folded above the carton supporting surface of the rail and in parallelism therewith, and the major flaps are folded below the carton supporting surface of the rail. The carton is then filled while supported on the rail, and thereafter is engaged by a pushing element and slid longitudinally off the discharge end of the rail.

摘要： A tray opening mechanism and an improved tray are disclosed in this application. The opening mechanism consists of a pair of blades that are supported for both pivotal movement about a fixed shaft and rotational movement about axes perpendicular to the shaft. The trays are removed from a stack and inserted onto the blades while the blades are in a raised position and the blades are automatically rotated 180* in one direction and then rotated 90* in the opposite direction to initially over-bend the tray and then return the tray to an erected position, while the blades and tray are provided from the raised position to a lowered position. The improved tray has cutouts located at specific locations so that the blades may be moved directly into engagement with the top wall of the tray to insure that the blades are inserted between the top and bottom walls of the trays.

摘要： The apparatus feeds flattened carton blanks from a magazine, opens and erects the cartons, and advances the erected cartons along a conveyor for subsequent filling. Vaccum operated grippers withdraw the end carton from the magazine. An upper flap depressor depresses the forwardmost upper flap forwardly and a retractable hold-down thereafter holds the flap on its depressed position. The upper flap depressor includes first and second members which have a lost-motion connection. Means is provided for operating the grippers, the conveyor, and the upper flap depressor in timed relation.
