摘要:
In an hydraulic anti-skid braking system for a vehicle a supply of fluid from a master cylinder is modulated by a modulator assembly in accordance with skid signals from a skid sensing means device, and an hydraulic pump incorporating at least one plunger has a working chamber in communication with the modulator assembly to control brake re-application following skid correction. The modulator assembly incorporates a piston which is normally urged into an advanced inoperative position against a stop by a spring, in which position the piston holds a spring-loaded valve in an open position to place the master cylinder in communication with the brake. Support and expander chambers on opposite sides of the piston are interconnected at all times by a restricted passage with the support chamber defined in a bore in which the piston is guided to slide, between the piston and normally closed dump valve. Thus the position of the piston in the bore is determined by the loading in the spring either augmented or opposed by a force applied to the piston due to any pressure drop across the restricted passage.

An anti-skid hydraulic braking system for a vehicle having the usual wheel cylinders, master cylinder and brake pedal, with a brake release valve interposed ahead of each wheel cylinder for selectively reducing the pressure in the wheel cylinder in accordance with a slip signal generated at the associated wheel. For the purpose of generating a slip signal, positive displacement hydraulic pumps are coupled to the respective wheels, the pumps being connected in a series loop circuit charged with control fluid so that control fluid circulates idly at low pressure in the loop as long as the wheels rotate at the same speed, but with back pressure being developed at the input connection of a pump associated with a wheel which is in a relatively slipping condition of incipient skid. Each brake release valve has an inlet port connected to the master cylinder, an outlet port connected to the wheel cylinder, and a control port which is coupled to the input connection of the associated pump for receiving a pressure signal therefrom. The valve has a first or "signal" piston movable in response to the pressure and a second piston for creating a cavity for temporary accommodation of brake fluid from the wheel cylinder. When the pressure at the control port rises, signaling an incipient skid, movement of the signal piston first cuts off the inlet port to isolate the wheel cylinder from the rest of the regular braking system and then shifts the second piston to create a cavity for accommodating slight reverse flow of fluid from the wheel cylinder, thus releasing the brake sufficiently to avoid a skid.

An antiskid apparatus provided in a communicating passage extending between a master cylinder and a brake cylinder in a brake system for a vehicle includes a flow rate control valve provided in a discharge passage which connects a pressure regulating chamber and a damping valve. The flow rate control valve includes a valve body having a flow path which defines a part of the discharge passage, and a valve member disposed in such a manner as to be reciprocal along the flow path. The valve member is normally separated from a valve seat formed on the valve body by the action of a spring in order to open the flow path. When subjected to pressure supplied from the pressure regulating chamber, the valve member is brought into contact with the valve seat to close the flow path. The valve member is provided with an orifice which provides communication between the flow path and a portion of the discharge passage on the side thereof which is closer to the pressure regulating chamber. Thus, the response of the flow rate control valve is improved, and it is possible to facilitate the production thereof and lower the production cost of the apparatus.

A motor vehicle wheel engages a gear which drives a multistage cam which actuates a system of hydraulic valves and pistons. A pressure-sensitive spool valve detects when the hydraulic pressure in the brake system exceeds the value which causes the wheel to enter the skid mode. The hydraulic pressure from the brake system passes through the pressure-sensitive valve to the system of hydraulic valves and pistons operated by the cam. The outlet of the hydraulic valve and piston system goes to the brake cylinder in the wheel. During the skid mode, a valve in the hydraulic valve and piston system closes and a cam action on one of the pistons in the system causes a pumping pressure to be applied to the brake cylinder. This anti-skid device further includes two fail-safe features to protect against system failure.

A hydraulic brake having an electrohydraulic antiskid system with a high switching frequency which is speed-proportional. The switching frequency is determined from the number of cross holes in a gear and the gear speed. The cut-in time is electronically determined in a computer and control circuit by a speed comparison of all wheels, whereby the switching frequencies of the passing teeth of a transport gear to a sensor are used as control impulses. If the computer and control circuit determines a deviation, e.g., if a wheel is being braked too sharply and, therefore, runs slower than the other wheels, a camshaft is rotated only in a forward direction, thus activating an antiskid system. If the difference is zero, the camshaft falls back into its initial position, the antiskid system is cut-out and only the braking system of the piston is operating.

Controlled braking of a vehicle wheel is provided by inserting between the normal hydraulic pressure applied by the brake pedal and the brake drum or brake disc an hydraulic control system comprising a rotatable clutch and hydraulic pump together with a bypass valve. The arrangement is such that application of braking action on the foot pedal urges the clutch into engagement with the wheel disc or drum so that the clutch will rotate with the disc or drum. The hydraulic pump in turn is coupled to the clutch to rotate with the clutch and provide output hydraulic pressure proportional to the speed of rotation of the clutch. The outlet and inlet of the pump are connected to a bypass valve so that recirculation can take place. A further hydraulic line from the pump outlet connects to the normal friction means hydraulically controlled for engaging the disc or drum to brake the wheel. With this arrangement, when the brakes are initially applied, high hydraulic pressure will be applied to the wheel disc or drum because of the relatively high RPM of the pump. As the wheel slows, the RPM of the pump also decreases, thereby decreasing the hydraulic pressure applied to the friction means engaging the wheel disc or drum.

A piston pump with a controllable stroke is described. It is a positive displacement type pump with several stages and also a continuous variable stroke. The pump piston is only effectively connected with the drive during the working stroke. For example, the pump serves particularly for controlling the braking force in an anti-locking system for vehicles. In every pump cycle it can vary the volume in the braking system, and thus the brake force, without letting fluid out of the brake system. It makes possible the amplitude control of brake pressure pulsations and a desirable brake pressure course. In addition, an anti-locking system with a special two-stage pump device is described. Furthermore, a hydraulic circuit of great utility for anti-locking systems is shown.

In an hydraulically-operated braking system for vehicles a supply of hydraulic fluid under pressure from a pump is utilized for applying a wheel brake, and the pump is responsive to rotation of the braked wheel so that the brake applying force is dependent upon the speed of rotation of the wheel and the wheel is automatically prevented from locking, and the system incorporates an hydraulic accumulator adapted to define a reservoir of high pressure for providing an instantaneous supply of high pressure fluid to apply the brake. This invention relates to improvements in hydraulically-operated braking systems for vehicles of the kind in which at least one brake is adapted to be applied in response to a supply of hydraulic fluid under pressure from a pump, and the pump is responsive to rotation of a wheel so that a brake applying force is dependent upon the speed of rotation of the wheel and the wheel is automatically prevented from locking. In known braking systems of the kind set forth a time delay may occur whilst the pump is generating within the system sufficient pressure to apply the brakes. Such a delay may be considerable in systems for operating large brakes where it is inconvenient to utilise a large pump adapted to operate at a high delivery rate when the speed of the vehicle is high.According to our invention an hydraulically operated braking system of the kind set forth incorporates an hydaulic accumulator adapted to define a reservoir of high pressure for providing an instantaneous supply of high pressure fluid to apply the brake. The hydraulic accumulator is connected to the brakes through a brake control valve of which the operation is controlled by the pressure from the pump thereby ensuring that operation of the brake is dependent upon the speed of rotation of the wheel.Preferably, by-pass means are provided for by-passing the brake control valve so that the pressure from the pump can be applied directly to the brake in the event of exhaustion of pressure in, or failure of, the hydraulic accumulator. The accumulator is charged between brake applications by the pressure from the pump which is supplied to the accumulator through a pressure regulating valve so constructed and arranged that when the brake is applied communication between the pump and the accumulator is cut-off, and the pump pressure is solely applied to the brake control valve.

In a braking system a dump valve opens during an imminent skid condition to dump fluid from a brake circuit to a reservoir space. A reservoir piston defining a boundary of the reservoir space then moves in a first bore against a spring so that a control rod, integral with the reservoir piston, allows a ball valve member to engage with its seat to cut-off communication between a master cylinder and a wheel brake. Simultaneously, fluid flows from the reservoir space through an inlet valve to a working chamber of a pump provided in a second bore in the reservoir piston so that a pump piston working in the bore engages with a rotatable eccentric. Fluid is then pumped from the pump chamber, past an outlet valve through an outlet passage in the control rod, and returned to the reservoir space through the open dump valve.

In an anti-skid hydraulic braking system for a vehicle a master cylinder supplying fluid under pressure to apply a brake includes an operating piston and a boost piston both working in a common bore with a boost chamber defined in the bore between adjacent ends of the piston. A boost control valve is provided between the pistons and is movable between a normally open inoperative position in which the boost chamber is in communication with return and outlet ports in the cylinder and an operative closed position when the master cylinder is operated in which the boost chamber is isolated from the return and outlet ports so that pressure in the boost chamber is increased to advance the boost piston in the bore to pressurize liquid in a pressure space.
