    摘要: This invention relates to a locking gimbal (10). More specifically, the invention relates to a locking gimbal (10) for automatically locking a gimballed object against motion arising from an external force (FE) applied thereto; and automatically releasing the gimballed object on removal of the external force (FE). The locking gimbal (10) includes a first object (12) pivotable about a first pivot axis (PF), a second object (14) movable along an arc cantered substantially at a second axis, a locking member (16) and a locking formation (18). The first object (12) defines a first reference axis (ARF) passing through the first pivot axis (PF) and a centre of gravity (CGF) of the first object (12), whereas the second object (14) defines a second reference axis (ARS) passing through the second axis and a centre of gravity (CGS) of the second object (14). The first and second objects (12, 14) are movable relative to one other between a first aligned condition, wherein the first and second reference axes (ARF, ARS) are substantially aligned, and a second displaced condition, wherein the first and second reference axes (ARF, ARS) are angularly displaced relative to one other. The locking formation (18), actuated by displacement between the first and second objects (12,14) is radially movable relative to the first pivot axis (PF) between engaged and disengaged position, wherein: (i) in the first aligned condition, the locking formation (18) is in a disengaged position and spaced from the locking member (16), permitting rotation of the first object (12) about the first pivot axis (PF); and (ii) in the second displaced condition, the locking formation (18) is in an engaged position and in contact with the locking member (16) thereby preventing rotation of the first object (12) about the first pivot axis (PF)

    摘要: A chair is stabilized in two orthogonal axis, pitch and roll, can hold a person stable in relation to the horizon. This solution to motion sickness is effective because the fluid in the inner ear no longer moves in relationship to the vehicle motion upon which the person is located. Therefore a main cause of motion sickness is substantially reduced or eliminated. Additionally, the invention can be a table, a bed, or even an entire room that is isolated from the rolling, pitching and jolting imparted by the host vehicle. Additionally, some applications such as a chair and table, may be stabilized in a third orthogonal axis, azimuth.

    摘要: A two-axis adjustable instrument mount having a fixed base plate, an intediate plate and an instrument mount plate. The intermediate plate is attached to the base plate by a three-point mount in the shape of an isosceles triangle. The two mounting points corresponding to the base of the triangle include hinge flex plates fixed to the base plate by means of rigid stand-offs. The flex plates are also fixed to the edge of the intermediate plate. The third mounting point corresponding to the apex of the triangle has a resilient block between the intermediate plate and the base plate. A threaded fastener passes through the resilient block and secures the intermediate plate to the base plate. Tightening or loosening the threaded fastener causes the resilient block to compress or expand thus allowing adjustment of the angle of the intermediate plate about the axis of the hinge plates with respect to the base plate. The instrument mount plate is similarly attached to the intermediate plate with the axis of the isosceles triangle formed by the three-point mount of the instrument mount plate being rotated 90 degrees from that of the intermediate plate.

    摘要: A towing post provides a floating transducer platform on a carriage which arranged for motion in a vertical direction above the center of pressure of a model being tested, for example, by towing across or through a towing basin. Linear bearings are attached to a carriage and engage vertical tracks extending between top and bottom fixed plates of the towing post. One or more transducers may be attached, one above the other, between the floating platform and the model and thus extend through an aperture in the lower plate. Attachment to the model through a gimbal located at the center of pressure of the model allows separation of a measurement, such as of drag, from effects of position and, if desired, a wide range of motion through one or more degrees of freedom, such as pitch and roll. Effects of towing post effects on trim are also eliminated and improved restraint of other motions is achieved. By accommodating more than one force transducer additional measurements can be made for calibration and/or adjustment which, for example, allow effects of yaw to be completely separated from drag measurements.
