In some cases, the causing the cable to surface may include: fracturing a frangible link wherein the frangible link, before the fracturing, affixes position of a piston within a cylinder bore of a housing coupled to the geophysical survey cable, and the fracturing of the frangible link responsive to pressure exerted on a face of the piston as the geophysical survey cable reaches or exceeds a predetermined depth; moving the piston within the cylinder bore; and deploying a mechanism that makes the geophysical survey cable more positively buoyant.

    摘要: The invention relates to a device for use in retrieving an object, e.g. a pair of spectacles, a key ring or a GPS device, that falls in water. According to the invention the device is provided with a holder that is resistant in regard of spray water and atmospheric humidity in which an inflatable body is enclosed. In the event of activation of the device, the formation of gas required for the exertion of a flotation or driving force occurs within the inflatable body itself. The reagents required for the gas formation are preferably provided in mutual separation within the inflatable body.

    摘要: An underwater lifting apparatus includes a lift bag having an inflatable bladder which is capable of receiving gas therein for inflating the lift bag, the bladder having a sleeve mounted on its outer surface. A pressurized canister is received within the sleeve of the lift bag for inflating the bladder of the lift bag. The pressurized canister is adapted to store gas under pressure therein. A plurality of valves are provided for delivering pressurized gas from the canister into the bladder of the lift bag, the valves being suitably mounted on the lift bag. Rigging is mounted on the lift bag for securing the lift bag to an object requiring removal from underwater.

    摘要: A device for automatically raising fish traps, crayfish pots, nets and the like comprises a tank containing pressurized gas connected through a control valve to an inflatable bladder. A control unit including a receiver and a solenoid driver is operable to open the valve, causing bladder inflation, when activated by a signal transmitted through the water or a timing mechanism. The control unit and valve are located within a watertight compartment of a housing connected to the tank. A pair of substantially flat frame members interconnect the housing to the tank. The frame members are mutually orthogonal and include identical cutouts defining a spherical inflation region. The bladder is positioned in the inflation region by upper and lower mounting sleeves. The upper sleeve includes a deflation valve and lift ring to provide automatic bladder deflation as the ring is engaged by surface personnel to raise the device from the water.

    摘要: An apparatus for use in recovering an article at least partially submerged in water comprises at least two floatable members each having an arm mounted thereon and whose buoyancy can be varied, each arm carrying a recovery member having gripping or scooping means. A pivot interconnects said arms so that their motion opposes that of the recovery members. A locking device for progressively and releasably locking the arms with respect to each other is provided such that on release thereof the pivot moves downwardly by gravity, causing the recovery members to come together in a caliper-like action. Pressure sensing means in recovery members feeds back information to the locking device to cause the arms to lock and prevent an increase in pressure is attained. A further embodiment does not need a locking device. Each of the floatable members is pivotally connected to one of the arms in an upward direction to a maximum elevation, the pivotable floatable members being arranged to stabilize the apparatus when they are elevated against rolling thereof. A further locking device is provided to hold each of the pivotable floatable members at least in the horizontal and in the maximum elevated positions. A method for recovering submerged articles using such an apparatus and a method for adjusting the buoyancy of an apparatus and improving its submerged stability by the use of pivotable floatable members is also disclosed.

    摘要: A thin flexible film bag, oriented horizontally or integral therewith and preferably bearing an absorbent material chuck on its upper wall, forms a plenum chamber. A lower wall underlying the chuck and including small diameter perforations to create an air bearing for supporting the patient mover. The patient borne thereby lies on the chuck, some distance from an underlying fixed planar support surface. This permits the patient to be readily moved in a frictionless manner when air under pressure fills the plenum chamber and escapes through the perforations. Air enters the plenum chamber through an outer tube of thin, flexible material. Paired, opposed, flat and less flexible tongues define a short inner tube, being positioned within the outer tube, to permit airflow entry to the plenum chamber with the tongues being deflected away from each other. The tongues are pressed against each other and one side of the outer tube wall, due to elastic memory, to prevent air escape from the chamber at that point. The patient mover includes features of controlled pillowing, use of a generally rigid backing member underlying the load, and air dispersion throughout the chamber to insure jacking of the patient during pressurization of the plenum chamber.
