    摘要: An improved web splicing apparatus that permits better handling of rolls of paper and other materials and the automatic splicing of the beginning of one roll of paper onto the approximate end of a second roll of paper without discontinuing the flow of paper to the utilizing device and without the use of core shafts. The apparatus utilizes two opposed pairs of independently controlled and positioned web roll support arms which are pivoted about spaced shafts and rotatably support cores of the paper rolls. This invention also allows sequential splicing of rolls having unequal web widths. This configuration also allows the right and left roll support arms to move the rolls upward in an overlapping path from a single loading position, thus providing a machine having considerably reduced dimensions and floor-space requirements. Another aspect of this invention is the automatic ejection of depleted roll-cores. A further aspect is the feasibility of configuring a stacked system of multiple splicers by rotating the splicers one quarter of a revolution, allowing machines to be stacked on top of one another to reduce floor space. Yet another aspect of this invention is the ability to remove partially depleted rolls without interrupting the feed of the web. Still another aspect is the use of the motor in conjunction with the brakes to expand the core chucks to grip the inside of the roll cores.

    摘要: A paper towel dispenser which provides for hands free, automatic feeding of the first sheet of a primary web roll, such as a paper towel roll, into a feed mechanism when its cover is closed. The dispenser also automatically transfers its web feed supply from a primary roll to a reserve roll upon the exhaustion of the primary roll. The present invention eliminates the need for an attendant to thread the leading edge of a primary or reserve roll into the feed mechanism of the dispenser. The dispenser also eliminates wasted paper because it does not begin to feed the reserve roll until the primary roll has expired. The dispenser can include either a manual feed mechanism or a powered feed mechanism. The dispenser relies on a sensor for determining when a portion of the web is absent from a side of the feed mechanism proximate a web discharge opening. When such an absence is sensed, an automatic, powered web transfer mechanism contacts the web located in front of the feed mechanism and positions it between the rollers of the feed mechanism. The transfer mechanism includes a web transfer member and a motor for driving the transfer member in the direction of the feed mechanism. The dispenser also includes a retraction mechanism for returning the transfer bar to a rest position after the web has been introduced into the feed mechanism.

The stub roll carrier defines an axis of rotation that is behind a vertical plane through the first axis of rotation of the primary roll carrier.

    摘要: A dispenser sequentially dispenses web material from a working web roll and then a reserve web roll. A web sensing mechanism senses the presence of the working web at a back side of the main feed roller and introduces the leading end of the reserve web roll to a feed nip defined by two feed rollers immediately after the trailing end of the working web roll passes over a back side of the feed roller. Web sensing, and controlled introduction of the leading end of the reserve web to the feed nip, are carried out by a simple and effective interaction of a grooved main feed roller, and a pair of pivotable lever arms—a web sensing arm mounted at the backside of the rollers, and a transfer arm mounted at the front side. The mechanism avoids double feeding of web by sensing the presence or absence of web at the back-side of the main feed roller. Transfer fingers of the transfer arm are movable against the reserve roll web and into corresponding grooves in the main feed roller such that a leading end portion of the reserve roll web is reliably moved into the vicinity feed roller nip, where serrations provided in the edges of the grooves facilitate a gripping of the leading end portion to pull the web through the nip. The feed path is arranged to extend away from the transfer fingers so as to avoid interference of the transfer fingers with the subsequent feeding of the web.
