摘要: A high speed printer elevator control mechanism includes an elevator frame having a paper guide chute for guiding paper into a bin and rides up and down in the bin responsive to an electric motor drive. The elevator moves a pre-determined distance above the paper being stacked in the bin responsive to control signals initiated by counting the paper being stacked in the bin. A pair of paper control strips or flappers are mounted to the elevator frame for guiding the paper in the bin and a switch is mounted to the elevator frame adjacent one of the flappers so that the switch is actuated by the movement of the paper control strip to generate a signal by each movement thereof. The signals are counted by the microprocessor which initiates the command to move the elevator.

摘要: A method and apparatus for fan folding a continuous web of paper having transverse fan fold lines in fan folds having a preselected fan fold length when the continuous paper is moved along a feed line from an upstream area to a folding area. A controller energizes a drive motor to oscillate a discharge chute through a predetermined arc and at a predetermined rate to permit the continuous web of paper to be fan folded as the paper is moved through the discharge chute at the folding area. The method includes the steps comprising advancing the continuous web of paper through the discharge chute, generating a first signal representing the speed at which the paper is advanced towards the discharge chute, generating a second signal representing a predetermined distance between the transverse fan fold lines; and oscillating the discharge chute in response to the first signal and the second signal to move the discharge chute through an arc and at a speed which enables the web of continuous paper to be folded in a zig-zag manner along the transverse fan fold lines.

摘要: Apparatus for stacking panels of a running web in zig-zag formation by folding the web along transversely extending weakened fold lines has a vertically movable table which supports successive growing stacks at a stacking station and has a concave or convex upper side serving to impart to the panels above it a concavo-convex shape. The fold lines between the panels of the growing stack are pushed downwardly and thereby caused to assume an arcuate shape by a set of rotary folding fingers and by a conveyor which cooperates with a suction chamber and pulls the adjacent fold lines of the growing stack downwardly toward the upper side of the table. The concavo-convex panels of the growing stack are stiffer than plane panels and ensure that the growing stacks resemble parallelepipeds with neighboring sides disposed at right angles to each other and without sagging of panels between the corresponding fold lines.

摘要: A forms jam detector for a high-speed line printer having control electronics, a forms guide and a pair of paddlewheel assemblies for fan-folding continuous paper forms fed from the forms guide in a stack within a forms stacker assembly of the printer includes an emitter for projecting a beam of electromagnetic radiation, a receiver coupled to the control electronics and adapted to receive the projected beam, and a member for interposing between the emitter and the receiver. When a jam causes a portion of the paper forms to be forced upwardly from the stack, that portion urges the interposing member upward also to block the projected beam and disable the printer.

摘要: Successive panels of a running web with panels in zig-zag formation are deflected into a duct wherein the panels gather into a growing pile on a vertically movable bottom wall. A severing tool is moved across the pile at a selected level above the bottom wall to sever the web along the fold line between two neighboring panels when the pile beneath the level of the severing tool reaches a preselected height. A spreading device is used to spread apart the panels immediately above and below the level of the severing tool to establish a clearance for entry of the tool. The panels above and below the clearance are clamped to prevent the tool from displacing and/or otherwise affecting such panels during penetration into the clearance and during severing of the web along the fold line between the panels immediately adjacent the clearance.

摘要: A method for sorting, separating and indicating sections of an outputted stack, such as printed continuous paper web. A continuous web is outputted which includes a plurality of sections having pages therein. Page separation and section separation locations are determined upon the web wherein the size of each page in a section is equal and wherein the size of at least one section separator page disposed adjacent to a section separation location is unequal to the size of the other pages in the section. The web is folded at each of the subsequent page separation locations upon an alternating face to produce a zig-zag pattern. The section separator pages may be folded so that their size is greater than or less than the size of the pages in the section and the section separator pages may be cut so that their size is greater than or less than that of the pages in the section. The area of a section separator page overlapping or indented from the pages in the section may contain information descriptive of the section contents.

摘要: In the apparatus for binding stacks (31) of zig-zag-folded layers (40) a folder (10) is followed by a stacking device (43), which has a lifting table (14). In stacking area (41) following folder (10) is provided a separating device (24) in the form of a rake with front separating heads (100), which can be provided with blast air nozzles. A straightening device (22a) is used for periodically compressing the folded edge (82a) and the folder is preceded by a cutting mechanism (110) for making cuts on the folded edges (82a) to be separated, so that the separating devices (24) are not required to operate at areas on the edges provided with conveying holes.
