摘要: It is intended to provide an optical fiber-cutting method and an optical fiber-cutting machine, by which an optical fiber can be cut smoothly and perpendicularly to the axis of the optical fiber. A ferrule 21 is held by a holder 14 which is supported in a slantingly movable fashion relative to the main body 12 of a cutting machine 11, and an end portion of the optical fiber 20 projecting from an end face of the ferrule 21 is held by a clamp 16 to apply a pulling force to the optical fiber. The holder 14 is slanted to bend the optical fiber 20, and a cutting blade 28 is moved in an arc line along the circumference of a basal portion at the inner side of the bending portion of the optical fiber 20 while butting the cutting blade 28 to the optical fiber 20, to make a cut 20a of an arc shape, and then the holder 14 is slanted toward the direction opposite to the above direction to bend the optical fiber 20 toward the direction opposite to the above direction, thereby cutting the optical fiber 20.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method for terminating the end of an optical fiber. In particular the present invention relates to a method for forming a low reflectance termination on an end of an optical fiber. The method including the step of tensioning the optical fiber between two spaced apart points thereon. The method further including the step of moving a ball termination torch from a given location in a given direction with respect to the fiber such that a potion of the flame therefrom intercepts the fiber and severs the fiber into two pieces each having a tapered end. The method further includes the steps of retracting at least one of the tapered ends a predetermined distance in a direction away from the other of the tapered ends and continuing to move the torch such that the flame heats the at least one of the tapered ends to cause it to become shortened.

摘要: New glass fibers having an average length of about 100 to 400 &mgr;m and an apparent density of about 1 to 0.2 g/cm3 are produced by spinning glass fibers, comprising spinning glass fibers into bundles, cooling with liquid to form wet bundles, directly cutting such bundles in the wet state, without previous drying, grinding said bundles to milled glass fibers in a high-efficiency mixer with the addition of a liquid, and then drying. The fibers are especially suited for filling polyurethanes by the PUR-RIM process.
