摘要: An individual step pad which can be incorporated into any loop of rope or dock line. The step pad provides a permanent or temporary rescue and utility footing in combination with a piece of rope. The step pad comprises a step pad portion, the step pad portion having a generally flat upper surface, a lower surface, upper edges, a predetermined thickness and lengthwise ends. The step pad portion further has two rope receiving notches in the lengthwise ends each consisting of a semi-circular groove extending vertically through the step pad, the semi-circular groove having a predetermined diameter, whereby the piece of rope is captured within the semi-circular groove of the notches on either end of the step pad. The device is portable and can float, and when installed in a loop of rope, can be thrown to a person in the water or in another boat, etc. The device can accommodate ropes or dock lines of different sizes, the device being secured at either end by a rope of a predetermined size fitted into one of the rope notches at either end of the device, rendering the device infinitely adaptable to ropes of various operative dimensions. A method for using the step pad is also disclosed.

摘要: An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) may be used to deliver a descent system to an elevated location at which people await rescue, such as people trapped in an upper story of a burning building. The UAV may deliver the descent system, attach it to the building, and deploy the descent system. After deployment, the descent system may be tensioned to prevent sway and facilitate descent. Standoffs may be installed or integrated into the descent system to provide for adequate handholds for descending individuals. Various equipment and methods used in such systems are described herein.

摘要: A safety device including a support that may be stowed within an enclosure and easily extended for use. One embodiment comprises a primary strap having a handle on one end and a step on the other end. The primary strap passes through two rings, which allow it to slide through the rings when pulled in one direction, but resist movement when pulled in the other. The rings are coupled to a keeper, preferably by a secondary strap, and the keeper includes a pouch closable by a flap to form an enclosure. The keeper may be attached to a vessel or other object via a connector, such as a loop, on its rear side. The straps are gathered inside the keeper, with a portion of the primary strap hanging outside the keeper and fixed in position by the closed flap, such when the portion of the primary strap is pulled, the flap will open and the handle and step extend, to allow a user to use the handle and step for support to gain entry to a vessel from the water or such other purpose as may be necessary or desirable.

摘要: A hinge for a foldable boat ladder which permits the ladder to be stowed in its folded position without the need for additional fastening means. The hinge comprises a pair of sockets each having a plurality of leaves, the leaves interfitting. The leaves for the upper portion of the ladder have aligned holes carrying a stationary hinge pin. The leaves on the lower socket have inclined slots engaging this pin. In the lower hinge position the sockets are aligned. When the lower socket is swung upwardly 180.degree., its leaf slots slide downwardly and inwardly. The lower ends of these leaves engage the lower portion of the upper socket, and a bridge extending between the leaves above the pin engages a leaf on the upper socket. This prevents rattling and permits the sockets to be held firmly together, but still far enough apart so that steps on the upper and lower ladder portions may be aligned without touching.
