[Class 20 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A telescopic pit prop comprises a tubular hood supporting plunger 4, Figs. 2, 3 slotted longitudinally and normally freely sliding in a cylindrical inner bearing means 9, 10 at the upper end of a tubular standard 1, the. plunger 4 being expanded radially into locking engagement with the bearing means 9, 10 by a wedge 11 forced into the slot 5 by a key 12, the slot and wedge being tapered upwardly. Hoop rings 9 and a tubular spacer member 10 form the inner bearing means which is provided with an extension 3 to house the wedge I and key 12, the latter having a pair of flanges one of which engages a slot in the back of the wedge 11 and the other a slot in the extension 3. Accidental withdrawal of the key 12 is prevented by means of a removable cap 13 and a spring-urged cotter pin inserted in a hole in the key. A pin 21, Fig. 3, freely slidable in a boss 20 on the extension 3 has its upper end in contact with the lower edge of an annular flange 8, Fig. 2, of a pivotal cap 6 and serves to measure the penetration of the plunger. In operation the plunger 4 is first brought into engagement with a roof cross-bar by means of a pair of keys 25, Fig. 5 (not shown), which are alternately engaged in staggered slots 26, Fig. 2, in the standard or alternatively a hoisting device, Fig. 6 (not shown), (see Group XXX), may be used.

摘要: There is a support for underground mining and tunnel construction, comprising an outer tube and an inner tube, which can be pushed into each other in a telescoping manner. A piston acted upon by a hydraulic pressure medium is located in the outer tube. This piston, when acted upon by pressure, acts on the inner tube to cause an extension. The outer tube and the inner tube can be fixed on each other by means of a mechanical locking device.
