    Abstract: An integrated brake spider and mounting bracket arrangement for a drum brake includes a brake spider with a spider mounting section, having openings through which fasteners may pass to secure the brake spider to an axle flange of a vehicle. The spider is also provided with a base section having an attachment surface for a bracket, and the bracket is secured by way of a metal fabrication process to the attachment surface of the base section and to actuator support structure adapted to support an actuator for the drum brake.

    Abstract: An S-cam brake includes an S-cam unit for braking a drum, where the S-cam unit includes an S-cam of an “S” shape having an involute tooth profile at left and right sides thereof, and horizontal tangential members forming contacting surfaces engaged with the involute tooth profile symmetrically around a center point of a circle at the left and right sides of the S-cam, and being spread at the left and right sides with normal lines of the contacting surfaces as a horizontal direction when the S-cam rotates.

    Abstract: A steering knuckle (18) is provided for use in association with a vehicle steering assembly (10). The steering knuckle (10) includes a knuckle body (20) having a generally vertical face (26) and an upper yolk arm (22) having a generally vertical face (54). The generally vertical faces (26, 54) of the steering knuckle body (20) and the upper yolk arm (22) are connected to each other. The generally vertical face (54) of the upper yolk arm (22) includes a camshaft bore (62) extending therethrough and configured to receive a camshaft (64). The generally vertical face of the knuckle body may be welded to a spindle (24), with a portion of the spindle being cut away to allow for a complete circular weld between the knuckle body and the spindle.

    Abstract: A braking arrangement includes a brake liner, a backing plate and an attachment member for interconnecting the brake liner to the backing plate, wherein the brake liner includes a recess in a surface facing the backing plate, wherein the backing plate includes a through hole associated to the recess of the brake liner; wherein the attachment member includes a first portion engaging the recess of the brake liner, wherein the attachment member further includes a second portion extending from the first portion of the attachment member and forming a one-piece unit with the first portion, and in that the second portion extends into the through hole of the backing plate and engages with the backing plate. An attachment member and a method for interconnecting a brake liner to a backing plate by an attachment member are also provided.

    Abstract: A bracket for a brake assembly and a brake actuator includes a unitary body including a tube configured to receive a camshaft of the brake assembly and an actuator mounting arm disposed proximate a first end of the tube and configured to receive the brake actuator. In some embodiments, the tube includes one or more helical ribs formed on a radially inner surface. The bracket further includes either a brake spider or a brake spider mounting flange disposed proximate a second end of the tube. In either embodiment, material may be omitted in various locations to reduce the weight of the bracket. The bracket may be formed through an additive manufacturing process and in a manner that achieve at least one of a predetermined torsional stiffness and attenuation of a predetermined natural frequency.

    Abstract: A hybrid structural apparatus is provided for a vehicle air braking system. The hybrid structural apparatus comprises a member including a non-pressure plate of a brake actuator and an arm portion that extends from the non-pressure plate. The member is made of a first material. The hybrid structural apparatus further comprises a first flange made of a second material fastened to the arm portion of the member. The second material is different from the first material. The hybrid structural apparatus also includes a second flange for fastening to a brake spider, and a camshaft support tube interconnecting the first and second flanges.
