Abstract: A gland packing includes a gland packing body made of expanded graphite. The gland packing body has a cylindrical shape, and has a plurality of layers formed in a radial direction. Abstract: A pressure-tight stem cylinder seal and a self-energizing stem shoulder seal matching the stem cylinder seal that both use an equilaterally triangular soft ring as their sealing element, wherein their designing rules are first, by means of wedging function of a hard gland coaxial with the stem cylinder, to convert their original axial tightening force 2f respectively into a radial compression force 4f/√3 of their soft ring 04 on the stem 02 cylinder and another radial compression force 2f of their soft ring 06 on the stem 02 shoulder and ensure that the two soft rings are so compressed from a great room to a small room as to be able to pass a pressure or stress exactly to each different direction, then to cut off their off-stem corners to give their cavities an opening or give each soft ring an axial compressing allowance, and last, by means of anti-extrusion metallic C-rings without axial resistance, to close each opening to provide a full support for the sealing deformation of their soft rings compressed in their cavities.

Abstract: A circumferential seal assembly for use between a higher pressure side and a lower pressure side is presented. The seal assembly includes a primary sealing ring, a second sealing ring, a third sealing ring, and an insert. The segmented primary sealing ring sealingly engages both a face sealing surface along a housing and a radial sealing surface along a rotatable element. The insert is disposed within and directly contacts the housing. The second sealing ring is adjacent to the primary sealing ring and sealingly engages both the primary sealing ring and the insert. The segmented third sealing ring contacts and sealingly engages the primary sealing ring opposite the housing. The insert, the second sealing ring, and the third sealing ring cooperate to form a first cavity adjacent to the second sealing ring and the third sealing ring. The primary sealing ring, the second sealing ring, the insert, and the housing cooperate to form a second cavity adjacent to the primary sealing ring. The insert and the second sealing ring separate the first cavity from the second cavity.

Abstract: Rotary steerable drilling systems are subjected to harsh environments including high temperature and pressure. A metallic seal ring prevents or limits erosive wear by limiting the velocity of the fluid that traversers from the high pressure side of the metallic seal ring to the low pressure side of the metallic seal ring to a value that can be sustained by the material of the metallic seal ring. A metallic seal ring is capable of withstand the wear and tear of drilling mud or other fluids used for downhole drilling operations. A metallic seal ring includes a mating configuration that creates a seal as the metallic seal ring is contracted when or a tension is applied when disposed or positioned in the piston bore. The metallic seal ring maintains an adequate seal to protect the components of a pad assembly over the life or specified duration of a downhole drilling operation.

The thin-plate seal pieces have pressure-conduction holes (31) that are formed further to the inside in the radial direction of the rotating shaft than an inner-circumferential-side tip part (26a) of the low-pressure-side plate.
