摘要： In a burner for operating a combustor, the former consists essentially of a rotation generator (100), a transition piece following the rotation generator, and a mixing pipe following this transition piece. Transition piece and mixing pipe form the mixing section (220) of the burner and are located upstream from a combustion chamber (30). In the lower part of the mixing pipe is located a pilot burner system (300) which creates, among other things, a stabilization of the flame front, in particular in the transient load ranges, while minimizing pollutant emissions. A sensor (400) installed in the burner detects a flashback of the flame (80), whereupon the fuel quantity of this flame is at least temporarily reduced and at the same time the fuel quantity for the pilot burner is increased in such a way that the total fuel quantity and thus the turbine output remains constant. This measure prevents a destruction of the burner.

摘要： A Low Velocity Detonation (LVD) trap having acceleration, detonation and High Velocity Detonation (HVD) trap zones. The primary function is to prevent the propagation of LVD explosions in monopropellant fuel systems from propagating to the fuel storage tank. An area of decreasing diameter in the acceleration zone amplifies the pressure pulse propagation of the LVD in the fuel system to intentionally accelerate the rate of detonation such that a HVD can be precipitated in the detonation zone. The diameter of the detonation zone sufficiently violates the critical diameter for the amplified pressure pulse such that the fuel detonates as a HVD. The HVD is then trapped in the HVD trap zone which is designed in accordance with well known methods to prevent propagation of monopropellant fuel detonation from reaching the fuel storage tank. The LVD trap is particularly well suited for use in monopropellant fuel engines used to power torpedoes and in facilities associated with torpedo testing.

摘要： A combination of a flame arrestor with a reflection suppressor is provided which not only arrests an advancing flame front, but also suppresses or mitigates a reflection wave that is generated by a pressure wave that passes through the combination and continues on to a pipe restriction what generates a reflection wave that proceeds back to the combination. At the combination, the reflection suppressor suppresses and/or mitigates the reflection wave, thereby avoiding a heightened pressure in the combination that could cause a re-ignition and a new flame front and pressure front. The reflection suppressor has a tapered profile that permits a pressure wave to pass along and past the reflection suppressor as it leaves the combination but that impedes and mitigates a returning reflection wave produced by the pressure wave striking a pipe restriction and causing such a returning reflection wave.

摘要： A water heater including a water tank, a combustion chamber beneath the tank, a gas burner in the combustion chamber, an air plenum upstream of the combustion chamber, a flame arrestor located such that air in the air plenum passes through the flame arrestor to reach the combustion chamber, and a flue extending upwardly from the combustion chamber and through the water tank. An inner plate defines the lower boundary of the combustion chamber, and supports the flame arrestor. The inner plate is rolled around the bottom edge of the skirt. A raised ring is formed in the inner plate, and the flame arrestor is seated against the raised ring. An o-ring seal is positioned in a peripheral groove of the flame arrestor to substantially gas-tightly seal the periphery of the flame arrestor with respect to the inner plate. An access door is stamped and fit over a access opening in the skirt. The access door includes a boot wall for receiving a gas manifold tube boot in a slip fit fashion, and includes a flat portion for a sight glass.

The barrier has an inside wall, an outside wall and a space between the inside and outside walls. The outside wall has at least one aperture for air to pass into the space. There is a filter disposed in the space for filtering fumes from outside the outside wall to prevent the fumes from reaching the appliance and igniting from a spark from the appliance. There is an outwardly extending flange surrounding a top edge of the barrier. The flange has an inside wall connected to the inside wall of the barrier, an outside wall connected to the outside wall of the barrier, and a space between the inside and outside walls that communicates with the space in the barrier. The flange has an open top, so that fumes travel through the filter and out the open top and are thus kept away from the flame in the appliance.

摘要： A detonation flame arrestor including an outer cylinder, an inner cylinder, and fill media. The outer cylinder and inner cylinder are secured to a canister flange on one end and include a domed face (cap) on the other end. On assembly, the inner cylinder secured to the canister flange is positioned inside the outer cylinder secured to the canister flange, altogether forming a canister. The fill media is inserted in the canister between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder. Both the outer cylinder and the inner cylinder include a tapered spiral wound wire screen which forms their respective cylindrical circumferences. Contaminates are constrained between adjacent windings of the tapered wire screen. The canister is positioned in an outer housing in the flow path of a gas pipeline in such a manner that a flame front traveling through the pipeline enters the outer housing, impinges upon the domed face of the outer cylinder, makes an abrupt turn to enter the canister, passes through the fill media where the flame is extinguished, and the gas flow makes a second abrupt turn to exit the canister and continue in the flow path of the pipeline. The fill media includes irregular shaped spheres which provide a large surface area which acts as a heat sink to extinguish the flame.
