Abstract: An improved liquid filled gauge for measuring the temperature or pressure of a fluid. Gauge temperature or pressure readings are indicated by a pointer configured to produce substantial resistance to motion during pointer rotation. The preferred embodiment employs an elongated flat sheet pointer having three 90.degree. twists; two in the indication end of the pointer to bound a first resistive surface, and a third in the tail of the pointer to bound a second resistive surface.

Abstract: Provided is a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) sensor adapter. The sensor adapter may include two chambers. The first chamber may include a tortuous pathway for fluid and/or air flow. The second chamber may be fluidly sealed or separated from the first chamber and may house electrical components. The tortuous pathway may include varying stepped segments having a decreasing diameter from a proximal toward a distal end. For example, a first segment at the proximal end may have a larger diameter than a second, middle segment. An entrance to a third segment from the second segment may have a greatly reduced size. The tortuous pathway may further include a vent inlet positioned at approximately the same height as the entrance but requiring an approximate 180° turn therebetween. The inlet may extend into two opposite substantially horizontal portions that each lead to a vent outlet on opposite sides of the sensor adapter. The turn from the inlet to the substantially horizontal portions may be approximately 90°. The sensor adapter and tortuous pathway may mitigate aeration of DEF. The sensor adapter may prevent aerated DEF from entering the sensor adapter and may allow air to vent out of the sensor adapter to prevent aeration of DEF within the sensor adapter.

Abstract: A damping system, more specially, for measuring and automatic control systems takes the form of mass of damping liquid placed between two parts which may be moved in relation to each other and which are to be damped. By the selection of the damping liquid, as for example a silicone oil, and of the form and size of the space between the two moving parts and, furthermore, of the properties of the two parts touched by the liquid, it is possible to make certain that the liquid is kept in place by surface tension effects, that is to say because of its own surface tension and the surface tension properties of the lining faces touched by it.The damping unit may take the form of two, more specially frusto-conical plates, able to be moved in relation to each other and of which one may undergo adjustment by using a threaded rod and a lock nut. Furthermore, as a further development of the invention, the damping liquid may be kept in an open-sided but otherwise pot-like space between an U-shaped female part and a male part, able to be moved vibratingly within it.As a still further development, the female part has a through-hole and the male part is placed within it. A larger or smaller amount of the damping liquid may then be forced by a piston into the space between the male and female parts.

Abstract: A bobbin assembly for a vehicle instrument gauge is provided. The bobbin assembly includes an upper and a lower bobbin, which together define a chamber therebetween and an axis of rotation therethrough. The bobbin assembly also includes a permanent magnet rotatably disposed within the chamber. A shaft rotatably supports the magnet within the chamber for rotative movement about the axis of rotation, and a viscous damping fluid, carried in the chamber, damps the rotational movement of the magnet. The upper bobbin includes a nose portion defining a bore therethrough which extends along the axis of rotation. The bore is open to the chamber and receives the shaft therethrough. The nose portion also defines an inner dam portion disposed within the chamber. The upper bobbin further includes a trough which is in fluid communication with the chamber and extends radially outwardly from the inner dam portion.
