摘要: A polarization conversion system (PCS) is located in the output light path of a projector. The PCS may include a polarizing beam splitter, a polarization rotating element, a reflecting element, and a polarization switch. Typically, a projector outputs randomly-polarized light. This light is input to the PCS, in which the PCS separates p-polarized light and s-polarized light at the polarizing beam splitter. P-polarized light is directed toward the polarization switch on a first path. The s-polarized light is passed on a second path through the polarization rotating element (e.g., a half-wave plate), thereby transforming it to p-polarized light. A reflecting element directs the transformed polarized light (now p-polarized) along the second path toward the polarization switch. The first and second light paths are ultimately directed toward a projection screen to collectively form a brighter screen image in cinematic applications utilizing polarized light for three-dimensional viewing.

摘要: Three-dimensional display systems may include polarized displays that polarize light emitted from a first set of areas of the display with a first polarization for a first eye of the viewer and that polarizes light emitted from a second set of areas of the display with a second polarization for a second eye of the viewer. This may result in dark areas being perceived by a viewer when viewed through polarized 3D glasses. Systems and technologies according to this disclosure may include 3D glasses that have a lenses configured to redirect a portion of incoming light in a first axis to at least partially illuminate the dark areas.

摘要: A third imaging unit including a pixel not having a polarization characteristic is interposed between a first imaging unit and a second imaging unit including a pixel having a polarization characteristic for each of a plurality of polarization directions. A depth map is generated from a viewpoint of the first imaging unit by matching processing using a first image generated by the first imaging unit and a second image generated by the second imaging unit A normal map is generated on the basis of a polarization state of the first image. Integration processing of the depth map and the normal map is performed and a depth map with a high accuracy is generated. The depth map generated by the map integrating unit is converted into a map from a viewpoint of the third imaging unit, and an image free from deterioration can be generated.

A beam splitter is constructed of substantially orthogonally polarizing material on which divergent image light is received and is positioned at an angle to a source of the divergent image light. A phase shifting optic includes a reflective surface coated by a phase shifting film and is positioned at an angle non-perpendicular to at least a portion of the image light from the beam splitter. The angle of the phase shifting optic is dependent on the angle of the beam splitter.

摘要: The present invention relates to a time-multiplexed stereoscopic 3d projection system wherein the image-beam from a digital cinema projector is separated by a polarization beam-splitting element into one primary image-beam possessing a first state of polarization and at least one secondary image-beam possessing a second state of polarization. Polarization modulators are provided in order to modulate the polarization state for each of said primary and secondary image-beams thereof and arranged so that all left-eye images possess a first modulated state of polarization and all right-eye images possess a second modulated state of polarization. Additionally, there is provided one uniaxial condensing lens and at least one uniaxial expanding lens in order to minimize the optical path-lengths for each of said primary and secondary image-beams thereof, hence enabling said stereoscopic 3d projection system according to the present invention to operate together with projectors having a shorter throw-ratio as compared to other prior-art technologies.

摘要: A three-dimensional imaging system relies on effective native image resolution reduction in order to provide an array of pixel clusters, or voxels, with each pixel of the voxel representing a pixel of the image from a unique viewing angle. A 16-megapixel screen having 16-pixel voxels results in a screen having an image capacity downgraded to a 1-megapixel screen capable of showing sixteen different viewing angles. The system can be set up as a rear-projection screen or as a reflective screen illuminated by a front projector. The invention is best implemented with projectors and screens that represent all colors at a single physical location, such as a 3-panel LCD color-combinant projector or a DLP projector, either single or triple chip type. When the RGB sub-pixels are non-coincident, the viewers will see color artifacts that detract from the viewing experience.
