A reflector (20) is supported by the cantilever arm (117) spaced apart from the reed body (129). Motion of the reed tip (114) is transmitted via the cantilever arm (117) to the reflector (20). The cantilever arm (117) is shaped and configured such that the transmitted motion is amplified so that any movement of the reed tip (114) results in a greater movement of the reflector (20). The reed (10) in use is mounted on a mouthpiece (11) and has a distal end (119) which is illuminated by an LED (26), whereby the reflector (20) reflects light back to a light sensor (27), which measures the intensity of the light incident on the sensor (27).

A first wire can be connected to a first terminal of a first bobbin body prior to the first wire being wound around the first bobbin body a first number of times and then connecting the first wire to a second terminal of the first bobbin body. A second wire may be connected to the second terminal of the first bobbin body before winding the second wire around the first bobbin body a second number of times and then connecting the second wire to a third terminal of the first bobbin body. The first bobbin body is subsequently mounted onto a stringed instrument.

Embodiment apparatus and associated methods relate to adapting an actuator to adjust the tension of a musical instrument string, configuring a sensor to detect vibration propagated through the musical instrument body, configuring a noise removal filter to remove an undesired signal from vibration propagated through the musical instrument body, and automatically tuning the musical instrument based on adjusting the musical instrument string tension by the actuator while removing the undesired signal, until the fundamental frequency propagated through the instrument body by the vibration of the musical instrument string is within a predetermined tolerance of a reference frequency. In an illustrative example, the undesired signal may be actuator vibration. In some embodiments, actuator vibration spectral content may vary as a function of actuator torque, and, the noise removal filter may be adapted in real time. Various examples may advantageously provide faster and more accurate stringed musical instrument tuning.

The captured sound signal is routed to an electronic sound augmentation system that is configured to augment the captured sound with spatial sound effects such as reverb, echo, delay, etc. The processed and augmented sound is then reproduced via a vibrating driver that has been affixed to the body of the acoustic instrument. This creates a situation where the body of the musical instrument, responding to a series of vibrations produced by the vibrating driver, acts as a speaker component, reproducing a rich augmented sound output that comprises the sum of the sound produced by the original sound production capabilities of the acoustical instrument plus the added augmented or enhanced sound effects.

In a musical instrument, such as a piano, having a sound board, the sound board vibrates in response to vibrations of a string responsive to depression of a key. A waveform corresponding to such vibrations of the sound board is detected and recorded into a memory for each of the keys. The recorded vibration waveform is usable for reproduction of a sound based on sound board vibrations. In a sound reproduction apparatus, such as a piano, having a sound board, an excitation device physically excitable in response to an input waveform is provided on the sound board. In response to an operation of a key, a sound board vibration waveform corresponding to the operated key is read out from the memory, and the excitation device is driven in accordance with the read-out waveform signal so that the sound board is vibrated.
