A hydrodynamic spindle motor including an internally disposed heating element in a stationary spindle portion having a spindle hub rotatably coupled thereto. The hydrodynamic spindle motor has particular application for supporting discs for co-rotation for a disc drive. The heating element is activated to control viscosity of a hydrodynamic fluid of a hydrodynamic bearing rotationally supporting the spindle hub relative to the stationary spindle. Operation of the heating element reduces viscosity of the hydrodynamic fluid to reduce motor power requirements and improve “up-to-speed” time.

An information handling system, such as a disk drive, includes a base, a disk stack rotatably attached to the base, and an actuator assembly movably attached to the base. The actuator assembly also includes a load spring and a slider attached to said load spring. A ramp is also attached to the base near the disk stack. The ramp is used to load and unload the sliders to and from the disk. The slider and load spring are attached to form a gimballing connection between the slider and the load spring. The disk drive also includes a spindle motor and spindle motor controller for rotating the disk at a first rotational velocity and for rotating the disk at a second rotational velocity. The slider includes an air bearing surface. Landing pads, made of a durable material such as diamond like carbon, are formed on the air bearing surface of the slider. A method for loading a slider from a ramp to a disk surface includes rotating the disk at a first rotational velocity, as the slider is loaded. The disk is rotated at a second rotational velocity after the slider is positioned over the disk. The first rotational velocity is slower than the second rotational velocity so that damage due to contact between the disk and slider is minimized.

In addition, in the disk drive apparatus of the present invention, the ring-shaped track of the balancer is divided into plural tracks by partition walls or the like, and a ball used as a balance member is disposed so as to be movable on each divided track. The self-compensating dynamic balancer is formed integrally with rotating members in a disk player; that is, a turntable, a clamper and/or a rotor of a spindle motor. The self-compensating dynamic balancer includes at least one race which is integrally formed with the rotating member and rotates around a rotational shaft, a mobile unit which is located in the race to be capable of moving, and a cover member for covering an opening of the race. Thus, internal vibrations occurring due to the eccentric center of gravity of the disk can be effectively limited by the self-compensating dynamic balancer in which the mobile unit is disposed far away from the center of orbital rotation by a centrifugal force during rotation of the disk.

In a first embodiment the invention is distinguished thereby that at least one equilibration element is provided which acts onto the outer and/or inner bearing ring, [which element is] disposed between the corresponding bearing ring and a part supporting the bearing ring, and has a specified coefficient of thermal expansion &agr;. In a second embodiment the shaft is used as equilibration element, wherein the shaft comprises a material with a low coefficient of thermal expansion &agr;. As a further embodiment it is proposed to use for the bearing configuration roller bodies which comprise a material with a high coefficient of thermal expansion and thus act themselves as equilibration elements.
