The low frequencies of the spectrum of the analog input signal are attenuated with a low pass filter of an order in a range from 6 to 8 and a boost is implemented by introducing two real and opposed zeroes in the transfer function of the filter without altering the group delay.

    摘要: Dropout produces amplitude and high frequency loss in the read signal produced by reading a magnetic tape. A system for dropout compensation includes an adaptive filter that filters the read signal using multiplicative weighting factors based on an error signal. A detector receives the adaptive filter output and produces a binary signal indicating data written onto the magnetic tape. A shaping filter receives the binary signal and produces an ideal read signal representing the read signal resulting from writing and subsequently reading the binary signal without dropout. A differencer determines the error signal by subtracting the adaptive filter output from the ideal read signal.

    摘要: An arrangement for reproducing an electric signal from a track on a magnetic record carrier (2) includes a magnetic read head (1) for reading from the track an electric signal and for supplying the electric signal to an output, and automatic equalizer filter (5), including transconductance-capacitor filter (6). The transc-filter (6) has a tuning signal input (8). The equalizer filter (5) has a control signal input (15) and is adapted to automatically equalize the electric signal read from the track in response to a control signal supplied to its control signal input, and to supply an equalized output signal at its output (12). The tuning signal input of the transc-filter is coupled to the control signal input of the equalizer filter. The arrangement further includes a control signal generator (13,16) having an output (16) coupled to the control signal input (15) of the equalizer filter (5), the generator being adapted to generate a control signal and to supply the control signal to its output (16). The transconductance-capacitor filter (6) has a magnitude filter characteristic which increases with increasing frequencies in a frequency range below a reference frequency of the filter. The transconductance-capacitor filter is adapted to control the reference frequency in the filter characteristic in response to the control signal, so as to vary the angle of inclination of the filter curve below the reference frequency.

    摘要: A sampled amplitude read channel for magnetic disk recording which asynchronously samples the analog read signal, adaptively equalizes the resulting discrete time sample values according to a target partial response, extracts synchronous sample values through interpolated timing recovery, and detects digital data from the synchronous sample values using a Viterbi sequence detector is disclosed. To minimize interference from the timing and gain control loops, the phase and magnitude response of the adaptive equalizer filter are constrained at a predetermined frequency using an optimal orthogonal projection operation as a modification to a least mean square (LMS) adaptation algorithm. Further, with interpolated timing recovery, the equalizer filter and its associated latency are removed from the timing recovery loop, thereby allowing a higher order discrete time filter and a lower order analog filter.

The circuit is used to record and reproduce data with the reference amplitude value displaced from a reference value, thereby measuring the data error rate. Displacement of the reference amplitude from a reference value increases the data error rate, and therefore the data error rate can be measured within a short time. A data error rate with the reference amplitude equal to a reference value is estimated from the data error rate measurement, thereby making it possible to evaluate the degree of accuracy of a magnetic recording and reproduction apparatus. The data error rate is measured with the reference amplitude of the Viterbi detector displaced from a reference value while changing the equalization coefficient value of a waveform equalizer, the cut-off frequency of a low-pass filter and the write precompensation amount of a write precompensation circuit. In this way, the effect of the reproduction channel parameter or the write precompensation amount on the degree of accuracy of the magnetic recording and reproduction apparatus is evaluated, and the optimum value of the reproduction channel parameter or the write precompensation amount can thus be determined.
