A duplexer dielectric filter is disclosed. This filter has a dielectric block, with reception and transmission areas formed on the dielectric block and respectively having a resonator formed by a resonating hole. This resonating hole is at least partially coated with a conductive material on its internal surface. Reception and transmission terminals are formed on the upper and side surfaces of the dielectric block at positions corresponding to the reception and transmission areas and are insulated from the conductive material of the side surface of the dielectric block. An antenna terminal is arranged between the reception and transmission areas. An open area, free from a conductive material, is formed on at least a part of the side surface of the dielectric block at a position corresponding to the reception area. This open area controls both the coupling capacitance and the loading capacitance of the resonators since the loading capacitance and the coupling capacitance are changed in accordance with the size of the open area. The open area may be formed on the side surface of the dielectric block at one position or may be formed at a plurality of positions corresponding to the resonators within the reception area.

A high frequency ceramic compact includes Al, Ti and Mn as metallic elements and contains substantially no Al2TiO5 phase as determined by X-ray diffraction analysis and is obtained by firing at about 1310° C. or lower. A preferred high frequency ceramic compact is represented by the following formula and has a Q-value at 10 GHz of 10,000 or more: (100−x−y)AlO3/2−xTiO2−yMnO, wherein x and y are % by mole and x and y satisfy the following conditions: 3.0≦x≦9.0; and 0.1≦y≦1.0. These high frequency ceramic compacts have a relative dielectric constant of 20 or less, a Q-value at 10 GHz of 10,000 or more, and can optionally control the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency around 0 ppm/° C.

A dielectric filter or a dielectric duplexer is provided which comprises a dielectric block in a substantially rectangular parallelepiped shape, having a pair of opposite parallel end-faces and plural sides extending between the paired opposite end-faces, one of the plural sides being a mounting face; plural resonator holes elongating through the inside of the dielectric block across the paired opposite end-faces; inner conductors provided on the inner walls of the plural resonator holes, respectively; an outer conductor provided on the outside of the dielectric block; input-output electrodes provided only on one of the paired opposite end-faces, separated from the outer conductor, and capacitance-coupled to the predetermined inner conductors, respectively; and conductive terminals for external connection, connected to the input-output electrodes, having at least portions thereof lying substantially in the same plane as the mounting face. In the dielectric filter or the dielectric duplexer, since input-output electrode are provided on the end-face of the dielectric block, not provided on the sides of the dielectric block, the deterioration of Q0, caused by the input-output electrodes, can be reduced. Accordingly, the insertion loss and the attenuation characteristics are improved.
