摘要： Disclosed is an improved IC socket comprising a socket body having a seat surface formed its compartment, on which seat surface an IC package can be put, terminals aligned in confronting relation and mounted in the socket body, each terminal has a contact portion to make contact or engage with a selected lead of the IC package, and an actuator member for displacing the contact portions of the terminals between the withdrawing position in which the contact portions of the terminals are apart from the seat surface of the socket body and the advancing position in which the contact portions of the terminals are so close to the seat surface of the socket body as to permit the contact portions to engage with the leads of the IC package. The contact portion of each terminal comprises a first contact element having an engagement surface confronting the upper surface of the lead and a second contact element having an oblique engagement surface confronting the lower edge of the end of the lead. With this arrangement the IC package can be automatically put in centering position relative to the terminals of the socket.

The cards can then have key-receiving openings (112, 114, 116) that accommodate such keys. By matching the keys to particular physical and electrical functionality and compatibility attributes of a given card slot, such key-receiving openings can be similarly shaped and sized to assure that such cards cannot be inadvertently (or purposely) placed in an inappropriate card slot. In varying embodiments, such keys can be formed of a cable trough, a front panel, and a card guide seating surface.

Both the first blade connector and the first electrical contact arrangement are enclosed by the housing. The housing further defines a cable connector receiving area around the first blade connector for the receipt of a cable connector. A pair of laterally-opposed guide arm receiving cavities are integrally formed with the housing and are disposed outside of the cable connector receiving area. The guide arm receiving cavities are adapted for the receipt of guide arms from a mating cable connector.

In another aspect, at least one contact strip is formed with a movable detent releasably engagable in a recess in a pin insertable into the connector to lock the pin in the connector. In another aspect, at least one strip has an extension which overlays a portion of the bare wire end of an electrical conductor mounted in one end of a terminal. A wire crimp collar on the terminal is bendable about the strip extension and the bare wire end to electrically engage the collar, the bare wire end of the conductor terminal and the contact strip.
