A solder glass comprising, by weight, about 65% Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3 ; about 30% B.sub.2 O.sub.3 ; and about 5% PbO. The glass is molten at about 350.degree. C. and can be employed as a molten seal in electrical devices such as tungsten-halogen lamps.

摘要:
A sparkgap assembly for a surge voltage arrester is provided with a plurality of elongated electrodes mounted between stacked plates of insulating material to form a zigzag discharge path through the sparkgap assembly when it is sparked over. The sparkgap assembly is provided with uniquely formed end plates that provide corona shielding and contact the outer electrodes of the assembly in a manner such that these electrodes develop an arc-moving, horngap effect when an overvoltage surge is discharged through the assembly.

A plasma containment system comprises a hollow torus having a solenoidal winding and either additional multiple helical windings wound in opposite direction on either side of a plane containing the major axis of the torus or a conductor on the minor axis of the torus arranged to carry current in opposite directions on either side of said plane.

In an arrester for limiting overvoltages in a low voltage power system and for coupling conductors which are normally resistively separated from one another for lightning protection, which arrester includes at least two electrodes spaced apart to define at least one spark gap forming an arc discharge region, and an insulating member holding the electrodes in spaced-apart relation, there is provided a chamber adjacent the arc discharge region and having a chamber wall of an insulating material which emits a quenching gas under the effect of heat and which is provided with at least one outlet aperture through which the gases emitted under the effect of the heat generated during arc discharge can escape.
摘要:
Electrical devices and methods and apparatus for making the same, involving the support of conductive portions in an insulating member. Spark gap devices are constructed by moving heated rigid pressure members together to press kinked U-shaped wires into a strip of insulating material which is preferably a glass fiber mat preimpregnated with a semicured polyester. A second strip may be used with the wires being sandwiched between the strips which are pressed together by the pressure members to fuse them. The bight portions of the U-shaped wires are severed to provide spark gaps, preferably by use of severing means associated with the pressure members. By making a plurality of spark gap devices in strip form, grooves for automatic separation may be formed by providing projections on at least one of the pressure members.
