摘要: A power distribution system adapted for high current fault management during a fault event utilizes reclosing switches configured for a quick-slow-quick reclosing sequence in which the reclosing switch initially responds to the fault condition by tripping open, and then after a delay recloses for a first duration of time (slow) prior to tripping open. After another delay, the reclosing switch recloses for a second duration of time (quick) that is less than the first duration of time prior to tripping open for an indefinite interval. When installed in new segments or retrofitted in place of a fuse, reclosing switches configured with quick-slow-quick reclose timing allows for reduction of downstream customer outages, reduced I2T exposure for elements upstream of a fault event and a reduction in the duration of voltage sags experienced by customers during fault events while allowing for improved fault management configurations of the power distribution system.

摘要: A method for controlling a power distribution network includes receiving, by an electronic processor, a fault indication associated with a fault in the power distribution network from a first isolation device of a plurality of isolation devices. The processor identifies a first subset of a plurality of phases associated with the fault indication and a second subset of the plurality of phases not associated with the fault indication. The first and second subsets each include at least one member. The processor identifies an upstream isolation device upstream of the fault. The processor identifies a downstream isolation device downstream of the fault. The processor sends an open command to the downstream isolation device for each phase in the first subset. Responsive to the first isolation device not being the upstream isolation device, the processor sends a close command to the first isolation device for each phase in the first subset.

摘要: A fault protection system for an electrical power distribution system and a method of configuring and operating a fault protection system for an electrical power distribution system accepts device fault protection parameters, such as the time-current-characteristics (TCC's), of boundary devices, and selects and sets fault protection parameters for one or more fault protection devices, such as fault-interrupters, that thus coordinate with the boundary devices. Fault protection parameter selection for each fault protection device may occur automatically, and each device may reconfigure its fault protection parameters based upon changes in the electrical power distribution system, for example, as the result of fault isolation and/or service restoration.

摘要: A circuit breaker includes a tripping unit for interrupting an electrical circuit, and at least one current sensor for determining the electrical current flowing through the circuit breaker, connected to a control unit and configured such that the determined current is compared with current/period limit values. If a current/period limit value is exceeded, the tripping unit interrupts the electrical circuit. The current/period limit values include an adjustable first current limit value, present for a first period for an interruption; an adjustable second period, during which a second current limit value must be present to effect an interruption; and a range between the first current limit value and the second current limit value, the period decreasing with increasing current limit values in order to effect an interruption. The second current limit value can be adjusted at the circuit breaker.

摘要: Provided are a device and a method for automatically coordinating a protection device of a smart power distribution management system, wherein a protection coordination correction value of the protection device is calculated via topology analysis and system analysis of a distribution system so as to apply the result to a smart power distribution management system. The device for automatically coordinating a protection device as provided comprises: generating the topology information by obtaining the status information of the distribution system; setting machines, which transmit and received data when an event occurs, to communicate for each of a plurality of protection devices based on the topology information; calculating a system power flow including the power flow direction based on the topology information; and calculating a fault current which is generated upon the failure of the distribution system based on the topology information, thereby generating a protection coordination correction value.

摘要: Nuisance tripping is reduced in a power protection and distribution system including an upstream circuit breaker, a power distribution bus, and one or more downstream circuit breakers. A signal indicative of a current or pending downstream circuit breaker tripping action, such as a Zone Selective Interlocking (ZSI) signal, normally used to delay tripping of the upstream breaker, is used to suppress an optical flash detection system from tripping the upstream breaker in response to an optical flash resulting from the tripping of the downstream breaker. In this way, nuisance tripping of the upstream breaker is avoided when the downstream breaker trips (and the ZSI function is preserved).
