摘要： In one aspect, a fishing gaff includes a shaft, at least a first grip circumscribing a grip end segment of the shaft, and a hook member engaged with a hook end segment of the shaft. The hook end segment of the shaft is opposite to and longitudinally spaced from the grip end segment of the shaft. The hook member includes a shank extending longitudinally along the hook end segment of the shaft, an engagement segment located proximally on the shank and extending transversely away from the shank into a transversely-oriented hole of the hook end segment of the shaft, and a piercing element configured to pierce fish that is located distally on the shank. The piercing element extends distally beyond a distal end of the shaft. The fishing gaff also includes a coupling member disposed circumferentially around the shank to hold the shank onto the shaft.

摘要： A fish release device is claimed, comprising a spring-loaded set of opposing members with tip portions capable of retaining the lip of a fish suffering from barotrauma to a depth sufficient to reverse the effects of barotrauma prior to releasing the fish. The opposing members cross over each other such that the jaws can be temporarily opened merely by tugging upward on the line attached to the device. Once the jaws are opened, the fish normally swims away rapidly, before the jaws close again. The device is small, compact, and can be used with a variety of fish species and sizes.

摘要： A hand-held fish handling device includes a shaft having one pointed end, useful in entering the mouth of a fish and then retrieving a swallowed hook from the stomach of a fish. The other end of the shaft has a multi-purpose tool fastened thereon; the tool is able to be used as a pithing device, as an external hook remover, and as a gaff. A hand grip enclosing the center of the shaft may be brightly colored and of high buoyancy to aid in retrieving a dropped device. One version of the device employs a wooden shaft and the attached multi-purpose tool is made of a bent metal rod, sharpened at both ends.

摘要： A fish hook comprises a shank 12 terminating at one end in a barbed hook formation 14 and at the other end in a head 16. A hook-closing element 18 which is of resiliently flexible steel wire is mounted on the head 16 and is displaceable between a retracted position in which it lies adjacent the shank, and an extended position in which it extends across the gap between the shank and the tip of the hook formation. A detent pin 28 holds the hook-closing element in the retracted position. When the detent pin is pulled, the hook-closing element is released so that it moves, under action of its bias, from the retracted to the extended position.
