    摘要: Apparatus and Process for delivering molten steel to a continuous casting mold with high inclusion removal capability and high mold pool flow optimization potential includes a tundish with a novel design and a metal distributor comprising a main chamber body connected to a vacuum device and tubes for metal exchange between the tundish, the distributor and the casting mold. At least one of the tubes has gas injection devices to perform gas lifting functions. The new design of the tundish enables it to receive all the steel in a ladle without leaving any heel and refining the steel to an extremely low inclusion level. The distributor is able to achieve an effective hydrostatic head relative to the mold metal level of the order of 10−2 m or below in the submerged entry nozzle and obtain fully filled and stable flow with low disturbance inside the SEN and therefore is able to deliver the molten steel at low velocities at SEN exits with minimum turbulent disturbance and high flow, thermal and chemical homogeneity over the entire metal bath in the mold. The invention also makes it possible to leave no heels in either the tundish or the distributor when they are replaced. The invention is particularly useful for thin slab and strip casting processes where mold flow control is critical to the casting process.

    摘要: A process for adjusting the composition of a liquid metal, such as steel, is provided wherein liquid metal is sucked up from a start receptacle into a reactor which is at a reduced pressure with respect to the start receptacle. First, the liquid metal is made to flow inside the reactor under conditions close to plug flow where it undergoes a metallurgical treatment. Next, after the liquid metal has been conveyed through the reactor it is completely discharged into a finish receptacle which is also at a reduced pressure with respect to the reactor. To insure thorough mixing, the reactor is divided into a plurality of cells, each of which has its own independent gas injector for agitating the liquid metal therein.

The method comprises providing a body of molten metal and contacting the molten metal with a porous member having a porous surface resistant to penetration with the molten metal. The porous member is subjected to reduced pressure to impose a reduced pressure zone on the molten metal contacting the porous surface thereby removing the gaseous material from the molten metal through the porous member.

    摘要: In a method of manufacturing amorphous metal ribbons by ejecting molten metal through a nozzle attached to a tundish onto a rapidly moving cooling body, the molten metal is suppled to the tundish by first pouring the molten metal from a ladle into an intermediate vessel and then by supplying the molten metal from the intermediate vessel to the tundish through a gas-lift pump. An apparatus for supplying molten metal to a tundish comprises an intermediate vessel adjacent to the tundish and a gas-lift pump to supply the molten metal from the intermediate vessel to the tundish. The molten metal is poured from a ladle into the intermediate vessel. The gas-lift pump has a pump proper that is placed over the intermediate vessel and tundish so that its inlet and outlet open in the intermediate vessel and tundish, respectively. Bubbles are suppled into the pump proper through its inlet.

    摘要: The invention relates to a method for continuous vacuum casting of metals or other materials and a plant for effecting said method more particularly for the obtention of shapes and tubes. The method applicable to plants comprising a spray means in the open air and a dynamic lock for emergence into air,comprised of chambers which are maintained under decreasing pressures by pumping devices of known types and are separated from each other by diaphragms, consists, on the one hand, in holding the static pressure of the metal on the shape or tube being formed at a constant value, for a given size with respect to the liquid meniscus size, so as to render the permissible difference between the cross-section of said shape or tube, when reaching the dynamic lock, and the cross-section of said diaphragms low enough for the rate of air admission to remain in all cases lower than the pumping rates of said pumping devices, and, on the other hand, in so selecting the cooling zone length, as a function of the suitably set rate of withdrawal of the moulded shape, that said shape will enter the spray means, when leaving the lock, at a constant, controlled temperature. The invention is especially applicable to the obtention of uranium shapes or tubes.
