摘要： An infeed conveyor for feeding wood of a variety of types and lengths to a debarking drum which can be adjusted in height so as to optimize the infeed conditions as desired. The conveying apparatus is adapted to convey tree-length logs to a debarking drum. To that end, the system includes a foundation and a conveyor disposed vertically above the foundation. The conveyor has an inlet end at which logs to be debarked are loaded and an outlet end adjacent the debarking drum. The conveyor is mounted to the foundation so that the height of the inlet end and/or the outlet end can be selectively varied with respect to the foundation assembly. The conveyor is then held at least temporarily held at a selected height and/or inclination.

摘要： A log debarker of the hollow-head type having a rotor journaled in a stator for rotation about a longitudinal axis of the rotor. A plurality of debarking tools are attached to the rotor for debarking a log being moved axially through the rotating rotor. Three independently and hydraulically-powered infeed spiked rollers are positioned on the infeed end of the stator for feeding logs into the rotor and three independently and hydraulically-powered outfeed spiked rollers are positioned on the outfeed end. The rollers are powered at differing rotational speeds to accommodate logs of uneven surfaces. An air-operated tensioning system including a quick release valve adjusts the position of the infeed and the outfeed rollers urging them towards the longitudinal axis and automatically jogs the rollers open when they are unable to mount a log. A lubricating system having lubricant filtering and flow control capabilities lubricate and flushes the bearings for the rotating rotor.

摘要： A log debarker having a frame, a stator supported by the frame, a rotor journaled in the stator for rotation about a longitudinal axis of the rotor, a rotating mechanism for rotating the rotor about the longitudinal axis, a plurality of debarking tools attached to the rotor, and a feeding system for feeding logs axially through the rotor. The feeding system includes a plurality of log gripping rollers positioned for rolling contact with the log, and individual hydraulic motors are operatively connected to the log gripping roller for rotating the log gripping roller. Each of the hydraulic motors is adapted to rotate its log gripping roller at different and variable rotation speeds to accommodate logs of uneven surfaces. A hydraulic fluid supply system supplies each of the hydraulic motors with fluid so that the different and variable hydraulic fluid requirements of each of the hydraulic motors necessitated by uneven log surfaces are satisfied. A clutch mechanism operatively disposed between the roller and a roller drive shaft is positioned in and sealed in the roller. The debarking tools are mounted in a staggered fashion relative to an incoming log and are slanted in the direction of log travel.

The improvement comprises constructing each of the spikes in at least one of the rolls and preferably all so as to provide a radially outward cutting edge disposed generally within a plane parallel with the plane of the cylinder. Each cutting edge is configured to define at least one line extending transverse to the direction of movement thereof on the roll and a second line extending transverse to the first line. Each spike divergingly tapers from the lines in a direction toward the exterior of said cylinder.

The log penetrating surface of each elongated member is configured to penetrate a log engaged thereby to an extent less than the penetration of the log by the spikes of the associated roll so that another roll cooperatively engaging the log serves to effect a transverse centering movement of the log along the elongated member while engaged thereby.

The machine supports a log for linear movement in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the log and for rotation about its longitudinal axis. A saw is supported for rotation about a second longitudinal axis generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the log. The saw includes a saw blade wrapped around the second longitudinal axis in a helical pattern, the saw blade having a radially outer surface, a radially inner surface, and a cutting edge including saw teeth extending in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the log, the tips of the saw teeth projecting outwardly with respect to the saw blade. The saw is supported for selective engagement with the log, and is rotated about its longitudinal axis whereby the teeth will engage said log to strip the bark from the log.

摘要： Log debarking apparatus comprising a rotatable drum and a downwardly sloping feed chute for feeding logs into the inlet end of the drum. The drum is provided with anvil means located to prevent logs from being carried circumferentially around the drum by its rotation and carries debarking tools adapted to apply hammer-like impact blows to logs in the drum, the anvil means controlling the velocity circumferentially of the drum at which logs are supplied to such debarking tools. Adjacent to its inlet end, the drum carries a plurality of arcuately spaced apart vanes, each extending for only a minor portion of the length of the drum, which serve to control the velocity of logs supplied into the drum and cooperate with the anvil means to provide proper orientation of such supplied logs.

摘要： An apparatus for chipping an upright standing tree, from the top to the bottom, formed of a hollow body having a bottom central aperture through which the top of a tree is to be inserted, a free-ended shaft mounted centrally of and within this body for rotation about a vertical axis in general alignment with the axis of the tree to be chipped, this body being formed with a stationary top part and a rotary bottom part secured to the shaft. A set of planetary rotary cutters are mounted at one end on the free end of the shaft and angularly thereof so as to be rotated by the shaft about the shaft axis. A journal is provided on the rotary bottom part and on the other end of the rotary cutters to allow rotation of the cutters about their own axis. The stationary top part is formed with a circular gear along the lower edge and the planetary cutters are provided with gears at one end to mesh with the circular gear.
