摘要: A continuous inkjet printer (10, 100) has an ink drop generator (12, 112a, 112b) to generate a stream of ink drops (24), deflection means (14, 16, 18, 20, 114, 115, 116, 118a, 118b, 120) to direct each drop of the stream of ink drops either to a gutter (28) or to one of a plurality of default print positions in a stroke direction (30) on a substrate (26, 126), and input means (22, 122) to receive an indication of an offset. The deflection means, in dependence upon the indication of the offset, direct drops that would otherwise be directed to default print positions to offset print positions on a substrate (26, 126), the offset print positions being displaced in the stroke direction 30 by the offset from the default print positions. The input means (22, 122) may also receive an indication of a print height scaling factor and the deflection means (14, 16, 18, 20, 114, 115, 116, 118a, 118b, 120), in dependence upon the indication of the print height scaling factor, direct drops that would otherwise be directed to default print positions to scaled print positions on a substrate (26, 126), the scaled print positions being displaced from the origin in the stroke direction (30) by displacements corresponding to displacements from the origin of the default print positions when scaled by the print height scaling factor.

摘要: A method for operating a jetting module includes applying to a drop forming mechanism a sequence of drop formation waveforms in which a small-drop waveform applied after another identical small-drop waveform causes a small drop of volume Vs to be formed; applying a large-drop waveform after another identical large-drop waveform causes a large drop of volume VL to be formed, and applying a large-drop waveform adjacent to a small-drop waveform can be done in a way that produces a large drop having a volume VL2, where VL2 is different than VL and a small drop of volume VS2, where VS2 is different than Vs.

摘要: An continuous ink jet printer projects a stream of evenly spaced ink drops toward a substrate and controls placement of the ink drops on the substrate by selectively charging the individual ink drops and passing the charged ink drops through an electric field to control placement of said charged ink drops on a substrate. The printer may be used to print either single or multiple lines of print in a single stroke. A stroke consists of a single column from all lines and can have adjacent drops printed in alternating lines to reduce drop interaction. Each line of print in the stroke having N virtual print positions, at least some of which are being divided into pairs of adjacent positions. Each pair of adjacent positions has a first print position and a second print position. The printer includes a controller having a plurality of first and second look-up tables, each of which is associated with a different one of said pairs of adjacent print positions. Each of the look-up tables contains a plurality of charge values which correspond to the charge to be applied to a print drop in one of the first or second print positions, respectively, as a function of the charges of each of a predetermined number of drops that are proximate to the print drop in the drop stream. The adjacent drops may include a predetermined number of history drops that precede the print drop in the stream and a predetermined number of future drops that follow the print drop in the stream. The controller determines the charge to be applied to drops and produces a control signal responsive thereto by (1) retrieving a charge value from one of the first look-up tables if the drop is to be printed in one of the first print positions, or (2) retrieving a charge value from one of the second look-up tables if the drop is to be printed in one of the second print drop positions. A charging tunnel receives the control signal from the controller and charges the drops to the determined charges in response thereto.

摘要: Flight time of a stream of ink drops is measured and compared against a set point to determine variations therefrom. Variations due to changes in the ink composition are compensated for by adding or withholding solvent in proportion to the detected change. Changes due to variations in nozzle drive voltage result in the computation and use of a new flight time set point value, if necessary to avoid erroneous corrective action.

摘要: A printhead (1) for a continuous ink jet printer has a single pair of nozzles (3,3'). One or more oscillators for vibrating the ink (3,3') may be used to break up the twin streams (4,4') of droplets issuing from the nozzles. A pair (5) of charging gates is provided for applying, selectively and respectively, a charge to droplets in the two streams (4,4'). A pair of deflector means (7) apply respective electric fields across the streams (4,4') to deflect the droplets individually in accordance with the charge thereon. A gutter (10) or pair of gutters (11,11') receive droplets from the respective streams if they are not charged. The arrangement is such that the two streams of droplets are deflected in opposite directions so as to be printed.

摘要: A continuous ink jet recording apparatus which can record an image always with an appropriate density on any of various record media. A vibrating element driver drives a piezoelectric vibrating element in response to a disintegrating frequency signal from an oscillator to disintegrate a jet of ink from a nozzle. A multiplier multiplies picture element data of a line buffer by a density coefficient, and a pulse width modulator converts the picture element data from the multiplier into a charging controlling signal of the pulse width which increases in proportion to the number of ink drops per picture element. The charging controlling signal is applied via a high voltage switch to a controlling electrode, by which the in drops are charged in accordance with the charging controlling signal. A deflecting electrode deflects the charged ink drops. A frequency divider and a frequency converter frequency divides the disintegrating frequency signal by a gradation number and the density coefficient to obtain a picture element recording frequency signal, and a drum motor controlling circuit drives a drum motor to rotate a rotary drum at a speed in accordance with the picture element recording frequency signal.

摘要: An inkjet printer applies symmetrical driver vibrations to the full length of a linear nozzle array. A nozzle array and nozzle support plate are supported on the end of a supporting housing which also supports a plate for defining an ink flow cavity. The housing also defines an acoustic cavity which extends from the ink cavity to an end of the acoustic transducer and is filled with acoustically transmissive material. A transducer is bonded to the distal end of this acoustic material, so that when the transducer is energized, the vibrations are transmitted uniformly through the acoustically transmissive material and the acoustic cavity to the ink cavity, symmetrically driving the ink out through the nozzles of the nozzle plate. It has been found that the acoustic cavity in fact has a critical length which is related to the frequency of operation of this system. Specifically, for a frequency of 110 KHz, the length of the acoustic cavity should be 4.7 mm; for an operating frequency of 120 KHz, the length of the acoustic cavity from the ink cavity to the face of the transducer should be 4.2 mm. In order to produce uniform vibrations at the face of the transducer, grooves extend up from the distal end of the transducer about 9/10 of the way to the surface of the transducer which is bonded to the aroustic cavity material. These grooves should have a width of about 0.56 mm.

摘要: A method and apparatus for increasing inking resolution in an ink-mosaic recording device. In order to increase the inking resolution in a simple manner, a recording head is periodically deflected transversely to a direction of ejection of the drop of fluid, and the ejection is synchronized with this deflection. Thus a transverse speed component may be superimposed on the drop so that an encountering point on the recording carrier is shiftable. With a same number of transducers and constant transducer spacing, the recording points may be positioned closer to one another.
