A baler for making parallelepiped bales is equipped with a bale ejector or thrower structure including a bale throwing pan supported by a four-bar linkage that is swung upwardly by a hydraulic throwing cylinder. A control valve structure including a solenoid-operated trip valve and a solenoid-operated pressure-relief valve is actuated for effecting pressurization of the throwing cylinder and throwing of a bale in response to a trip switch being closed in response to a trip pedal being rotated by a bale moving rearwardly on the throwing pan as it exits the baler bale chamber, the trip valve when actuated blocking a source of fluid pressure from normal communication with a fluid sump, and the pressure-relief valve when actuated being operable for maintaining the working fluid pressure at a value determined by a variable potentiometer connected in circuit with the solenoid of the pressure relief valve. The pressure of the fluid available for operating the throwing cylinder and, hence, the distance through which a given bale will be thrown, depends on the setting of the relief valve achieved through adjustment of the variable potentiometer. An interlock circuit is provided for preventing actuation of the throwing cylinder in the event that a shield structure, which surrounds the area occupied by the throwing pan, is lifted to an inoperative position, such lifting opening an interlock switch. An interlock relay switch is provided which, when energized, maintains the availability of power to a power port of a timer coupled for receiving a control signal when the trip switch is tripped, the signal acting to change the state of the timer so that it connects power to the trip and pressure-relief valve solenoids for a preset time, the interlock relay switch acting to open the current path to the timer power input port in response to the interlock switch moving to its normally open position in response to the shield structure being raised to a non-working position.

The specification discloses an improved rotary snow thrower. The thrower includes a saucer-shaped rotary member having a plurality of blade assemblies on its surface. Snow on the road surface is collected by a mould-board and is delivered to the saucer-shaped rotary member solely by gravity, so that the rotary member provides a constant centrifugal force for throwing the snow away from the thrower. The blade assembly is deflectable when it encounters the free-falling snow from the mould-board to the rotary member. The deflection provides a vibration for shaking any wet snow off the blade such that no snow may freeze on the blade to hamper the operation of the snow thrower.

An apparatus for transporting a plurality of divided elements of a tacky dough substance to a predetermined location where the elements are shaped into toroids. An impelling mechanism consisting essentially of driven impeller wheels is associated with the apparatus. The wheels engage and impel the elements from their predetermined location of a conveying portion of the apparatus at a uniformly predetermined rate, to a toroid-forming machine. The use of the impelling mechanism avoids pileup of one element upon another in the toroid-forming machine by overcoming the normally adhering characteristics of the elements to the material of the conveying portion of the apparatus, brought about by the normally tacky nature of the elements. The impelling mechanism, therefore provides only one element at a time through a feeder to a toroid-forming portion of the toroid-forming machine, thereby resulting in a toroid of uniform size and shape. The use of the impelling mechanism further prevents clogging of the toroid-forming machine by enabling only a single element at a time to be fed to this machine, thereby improving product reliability and reducing the rejection rate of the manufactured toroids.

Bales formed in a baler 12 are thrown to a trailer 14 by a mechanism 28 which comprises a bale-engaging element 46 mounted on arms 42 actuated by an hydraulic cylinder 56. The cylinder 56 is pivotally connected to a stationary transverse member 58 and to an arm 60 rigidly connected to the arms 42 which, together with the element 46, swing upwardly to the dotted line position, Fig. 2, to throw a bale when the cylinder is energized. The supply of fluid to the cylinder is controlled by a valve 68 which includes a manual control 72 for regulating the fluid pressure to the valve and to the cylinder. The valve 68 is also controlled by a trip mechanism 80 which opens the valve when a bale of hay, received from the outlet 22 of the baler 12, reaches the position on the pan 46 indicated in Fig. 3. A mechanism 97 for shutting off fluid pressure to the cylinder 56 after energization comprises an adjustable link 102 connected to a pair of links 50 which maintain the pan 46 substantially horizontal. The link 102 is also connected to a cam 98 which is rocked in response to movement of the throwing mechanism 28 such that when the links 50 and arms 42 swing rearwardly and upwardly, the cam 98 engages a roller 94 on the spool of the valve 68 and pressure to the cylinder 56 is cut off. By adjusting the length of the link 102, the throwing stroke of the throwing mechanism may be varied. A support structure 32 which includes an hydraulic reservoir 36 is mounted on fore- and-aft pivots 38 for angular adjustment of the throwing mechanism.
