The loading device may comprise a housing having a channel, a plunger slideably disposed within the channel, and a spout extending away from the housing. The spout is configured to fit within an ejection port of the rifle. The plunger may include an articulating arm extending away from one end of the plunger, wherein the arm includes a plug disposed about one end for pushing ammunition cartridges into the fixed magazine. The loading device advantageously permits efficient and rapid reloading of ammunition into the fixed magazine.

The light-weight handheld less-lethal ballistic projectile launcher is configured as an “over/under” double barrel handheld device with a “break open” loading action. The launcher includes a barrel section pivotally connected to receiver section. The barrel section pivots between an open load/unload position and a closed firing position. The barrel section includes two metal barrel sleeves that are press fit into axial bores formed in the body of the barrel section. The barrel section also includes an ejector, which locks the barrel section in the closed firing position and partially expels spent rounds from the barrel sleeves when the barrel section is opened. The receiver section houses the launcher's fire control mechanism. The fire control mechanism uses a traditional single action operation and ensures that rounds are alternatively discharged from each barrel and prevents rounds from both barrels from being discharged simultaneously.

The dynamic latch may also eliminate the need to add a magazine well to the receiver of a shotgun or long gun. The dynamic latch may include an outer housing, a piston positioned within the housing, and a spring positioned within the piston. A latch profile on the end of the piston may extend out of an opening in the end of the housing when the spring is in an uncompressed state. The dynamic latch may also be used to connect a tube, such as a magazine tube, to the receiver.

An ammunition feed system for a firearm that can pivot in elevation about a horizontal elevation axis includes an ammunition storage device, a loading device and an intermediate transfer section. The ammunition storage device is fixed relative to the elevation axis. The ammunition storage device includes at least two magazines with a common first entry/exit opening through which the rounds of the ammunition pass. Each of the two magazines has a round transport assembly. The rounds are unconnected and selectively movable in a loading direction from the two magazines through the first entry/exit opening and in an unloading direction opposite the moving direction. The loading device individually loads the rounds into a firing chamber of the firearm and moves with the firearm in elevation. The intermediate transfer section links and transfers the rounds between the ammunition storage device and the loading device. The intermediate transfer section includes a first two-way round transfer device linked with the ammunition storage device to guide the rounds through a second entry/exit opening. A second two-way transfer device guides the rounds between the second entry/exit opening and the loading device. A drive shaft drives the first and second two-way round transfer devices and at least the respective round transfer assembly of the selected magazine. A synchronization device maintains the nonselected other of the two magazines in synchronization with the intermediate transfer section during movement of the firearm in elevation.

To reliably hold rounds of ammunition on a magazine conveyor, each of a series of ammunition round carriers has a semi-cylindrical bucket providing an axially elongated slot along which are arrayed integral, roller tipped resilient fingers defining a slot opening of a width less than the ammunition round diameter. Forced insertion and withdrawal of a round through the slot opening is accommodated by flexure of the fingers and facilitated by rolling engagement with the rollers. The rollers are pressed against an ammunition round in a bucket by the clamping forces of the fingers to impose both lateral and axial motion restraints on the round to secure its carrier position.

A propellant magazine includes a conveyor for mechanizing the handling of propellant charge units into and out of magazine storage. The charge units are contained in open ended tubular packs which are loaded onto the conveyor at a resupply loading station and are axially discharged from the packs through one open end at a gun loading station. The conveyor is comprised of a series of transversely elongated conveyor elements having a pair of hoops at each end with hoops of each adjacent pair of elements retained in nested relation to pivotally interconnect the elements in chain link fashion. The propellant charge units are discharged axially through the nested hoops along one side of the conveyor.

The mechanism accurately removes rounds of ammunition from a moving horizontal conveyor and places them into a stationary partitioned tray which is disposed below both the inventive mechanism and the conveyor. The mechanism comprises two counter-rotating dump bars driven by an indexing drive assembly which, in turn, comprises a combination of geneva-type indexing drive units and conventional gearing. The indexing drive assembly provides the dump bars with a 16-to-1 dwell-to-drive ratio, and rotates the bars 90.degree. each actuation. The dump bars have guiding surfaces across which the rounds of ammunition are moved by elements of the horizontal conveyor, while the dump bars are in the locked dwell position. When the dump bars are full of rounds, the bars index and transfer the rounds out of the conveyor elements and into the tray for subsequent operations, without interaction with, or interference by, the conveyor. Adjacent rounds that follow the original rounds then begin to fill the bars, and the operation is repeated in a cyclic manner.
