    摘要: A flow of air induces vibration of a tip of an airflow sensor. A cantilever coupled to the tip vibrates as the tip is displaced, and a piezoelectric element associated with the cantilever generates an electrical signal in response to mechanical stress or strain induced by vibration of the cantilever. A control element that is in communication with the piezoelectric element of the cantilever receives the electrical signal and derives at least one parameter indicative of the flow of air sensed by the sensor. The control element communicates or otherwise transmits an output signal that is indicative of the parameter to an output device to display sensor data to a user as desired.

    摘要: A vane anemometer is disclosed in which a modular vane assembly is removably mounted within the case of the instrument. Within the modular vane assembly is a rotatably mounted impeller shaft. The impeller assembly preferably can be removed and inserted into a cavity of the anemometer without the use of tools. Consequently, if the impeller, bearings or other components of the impeller assembly should become damaged, the modular impeller assembly can be quickly and easily replaced. The modular impeller assembly is preferably mechanically insulated from the anemometer casing. This minimizes the effect of dynamic forces on the bearings and other components of the impeller assembly. A method of and the structure for precisely and reproducibly adjusting the axial clearance between a shaft and a bearing assembly is also disclosed. The vane anemometer of this invention may also measure the temperature and the wind chill of the ambient air. In order to accurately and quickly measure these parameters the vane anemometer may have a temperature probe that is disposed external to the casing of the anemometer. Preferably, the casing has an opening defined by a plurality of walls of the casing in which the temperature probe is disposed. The temperature probe may be coupled to a microprocessor by an electrical connector that extends from the casing. In order to thermally isolate the probe from the casing, the connector may be wound about itself.

    摘要: The flow meter has in a substantially cylindrical inner housing (1) a helically designed diffuser (4), which imparts a swirl to the medium flowing through the inner housing. Downstream of the diffuser there is rotatably mounted a rotor (8), which has blades (13) extending from its rotational spindle (9) as well as a ring (14) which connects the blade ends to one another and is coaxial to the spindle. The rotor (8) is set in rotation by impingement of the blades (13) by the flowing medium. On the outer circumferential surface (15) of the ring (11) there is on a circular line a multiplicity of markings (16) arranged at equal angular intervals from one another. Through a window (18) in the inner housing (1), a light beam strikes the outer circumferential surface (15) of the ring (14), provided with the markings (16). Upon rotation of the rotor (8), the sequence of markings is transmitted by an optical-fibre cable (20) and sensed by a sensor (21), so that from the signals received the flow rate can be determined. The flow meter has the advantage that the medium to be measured does not have to be transparent as in the application of the light barrier and that the multiplicity of markings allows an increase in the measuring accuracy.

    摘要: A through-hull speed sensor of the magnetized paddlewheel sensor type wherein a paddlewheel is rotatably supported in a cavity adjacent a magnetic sensing device which generates electrical pulses corresponding to paddlewheel speed as the wheel rotates when the vessel moves through water. The sensor has improved low speed characteristics provided by a housing which extends the paddlewheel into the water below the hull. The bow of the housing provides a new leading edge, generating a smaller thickness boundary layer at the paddlewheel, so that the paddles project beyond the layer at low speeds. High speed performance is improved by having a high ratio of paddle fore-to-aft drag coefficient shape; keeping the periphery of the paddlewheel hub within, or flush with, the bottom of the cavity; a low paddle projection versus paddlewheel radius ratio; and by keeping the ratio of paddle cross-section versus available cavity cross-sectional space within an optimum range.

    摘要: A wind speed and wind direction signal generator includes first and second pulse signal generators each with a respective stator and rotor. The stator for each pulse generator has at least two stator coils mounted at a radial angle relative to each other in the direction of rotation of a rotor so that pulse signals excited on the stationary output lines of the two stator coils are phase shifted relative to each other at a phase detectable angle. The rotor has at least one permanent magnet with two poles spaced from each other for rotation relative to the respective stator coils and for exciting the pulse signals on the stator coil stationary output lines. First and second wind propellers are secured to the respective rotors and are oriented to compass directions at approximately 90.degree. defining a quadrant of a compass coordinate system. The wind propellers cause rotation of the respective rotors at respective frequencies proportional to first and second wind speed components. Phase detectors detect the direction of phase shift of pulse signals from each pair of stator coils from the first and second pulse signal generators. Counters count the pulses from the respective signals over predetermined time intervals generating wind speed component magnitude signals. A microprocessor and program elements compute the desired wind speed and wind direction information from the wind speed component magnitude signals, wind direction angle signals, quadrant signals, calibration factor signals, and trigonometric function signals.
