摘要: Described is a method including monitoring a point of regulation voltage input to a generator control unit and monitoring a generator output voltage as a backup point of regulation voltage input. The method also includes detecting an overvoltage fault at the point of regulation voltage input, the backup point of regulation voltage input, or both. Additionally, the method includes opening a first solid-state switch (110) in response to detecting the overvoltage fault. Opening the first solid-state switch (110) prevents provision of an input signal (104) to a generator excitation field (102). Further, the method includes opening a generator excitation field relay (112) in response to detecting the overvoltage fault. Opening the excitation field relay (112) also prevents provision of the input signal (104) to the generator excitation field (102).

摘要: Protection devices prevent damage to synchronous generators during loss-of-field events. In various embodiments, a first protective element is associated with a first protection zone to protect a generator from a loss-of-field event at full load. A second protective element is associated with a second protection zone to prevent thermal overload during underexcited operation of the generator and to protect from loss-of-filed at light load. A third protective element associated with a third protection zone limits operation of the generator within the generator's specific steady-state stability limits. A fourth protective element is associated with a fourth protection zone to provide an alarm prior to operation of the second protective element. In various embodiments, characteristics and limits of each of the protective elements are defined in the same plane (specifically, the P-Q plane) to simplify settings and allow for visualization of the element characteristics and the generator capability curve at one or more temperatures or cooling capacities.

摘要: The disclosed embodiments include a method to protect a downhole generator from overvoltage. In one embodiment, the method includes determining a speed of an alternator. The method also includes activating overvoltage protection mode if the speed of the alternator is greater than a threshold speed, where activating the overvoltage protection mode includes converting an alternating current measured at the alternator into a first component and a second component of a direct current. Activating the overvoltage protection mode also includes determining a first current threshold based on at least one component of the downhole generator. Activating the overvoltage protection mode also includes shutting down the downhole generator if the first component of the direct current is greater than the first current threshold and decreasing a magnetic flux of the downhole generator if the first component of the direct current is not greater than the first current threshold.

摘要: A excitation system and a generator arrangement with the excitation system is proposed. The excitation system comprises a converter adapted for converting an AC current to a DC current, a switching device for short circuiting an AC input of the converter, and an arc detection device for detecting an arc fault in the excitation system and for actuating the switching device upon detecting the arc fault. Therein, the switching device comprises an irreversible switch adapted for short circuiting the AC input such that the arc fault is quenched. This provide a comprehensive protection against arc faults.

摘要: A trip reduction tool for a wind turbine power system includes a capacitor assembly configured to provide multiple capacitance levels for the power system, including e.g. a first level of capacitance during a learning phase of the tool. The tool also includes one or more processors communicatively coupled to the capacitor assembly that is configured to monitor a plurality of electrical devices of the power system for trips during the learning phase. When a trip is detected, the processor(s) collects data and determines a location of the trip. When the location of the trip is located in an electrical device that corresponds to a weak link of the power system, the processor(s) determines a second level of capacitance for the power system based on the collected data. In addition, the processor(s) provides the second level of capacitance at the weak link of the power system to reduce future trips of the electrical device.
