Abstract: A method for monitoring one or more characteristics of an ultracapacitor is provided. The method includes obtaining a plurality of voltage measurements. Each of the voltage measurements can be obtained sequentially at one of a plurality of intervals. Furthermore, each of the voltage measurements can be indicative of a voltage across the ultracapacitor. The method can include determining an actual voltage step of the ultracapacitor based on two consecutive voltage measurements of the plurality of voltage measurements. The method can further include determining whether the actual voltage step exceeds a threshold voltage step of the ultracapacitor. Furthermore, in response to determining the actual voltage step exceeds the threshold voltage, the method can include providing a notification associated with performing a maintenance action on the ultracapacitor.

Abstract: A load handling device (30) for lifting and moving one or more containers (10) stacked in a storage system comprising a grid framework structure (14) supporting a pathway arranged in a grid pattern above the stacks (12) of containers (10), the load handling device (30) comprising: i) a vehicle body (32) housing a driving mechanism operatively arranged for moving the load handling device (30) on the grid framework structure (14); ii) a lifting device comprising a lifting drive assembly and a grabber device (39) configured, in use, to releasably grip a container (10) and lift the container (10) from the stack (12) into a container-receiving space (40); wherein the lifting drive assembly and/or the driving mechanism comprises at least one motor forming an electrical load (68); iii) a rechargeable energy storage means (62) for providing energy to power the electrical load (68); iv) a charging system (60) comprising a first part (64) for charging the rechargeable energy storage means (62) comprising at least one electrical charge receiving element (70) arranged on the vehicle body (32) and a second part (66) for delivering energy from the rechargeable energy storage means (62) to the electrical load (68); characterised in that: the second part (66) of the charging system comprises a DC/DC converter (74) positioned between the rechargeable energy storage means (62) and the electrical load (68) such that the DC/DC converter (74) is configured to supply a predetermined DC voltage across the electrical load (68).

Abstract: A utility meter includes a real-time clock (RTC), a supercapacitor, a power supply, and a set of photodiodes. The RTC keeps time utilized for time stamps applicable to events that occur during alternating current (AC) power outages of the utility meter, and the supercapacitor powers the RTC. The power supply operates in an active mode responsive to an AC line voltage meeting a threshold and, when in the active mode, charges the supercapacitor to power the RTC. The set of photodiodes absorbs energy from ambient light and charges the supercapacitor to power the RTC. Thus, the supercapacitor is configured to be charged based on the power supply and based on the set of photodiodes.
