A method for separation of fatty acid from a mixture comprising fatty acid, the corresponding acyl lactylate and lactic acid, said method comprising the steps of: a) providing a dispersion of said mixture in a polar carrier; b) adjusting the dispersion mixture to a pH of from 5 to 9; and, c) extracting the fatty acid from the dispersion carrier mixture into a solvent immiscible with said polar carrier, thereby obtaining a fatty acid solution and an aqueous raffinate comprising lactic acid and fatty acid lactylate. The polar carrier comprises, by weight of said carrier, from 70 to 100 wt.% of water and from 0 to 30 wt.% of one or more miscible, polar co-solvents. The aqueous raffinate may be further processed by: i) acidifying said raffinate to a pH of from 0 to 3; and, either ii)a) allowing said acidified raffinate to separate into two layers and separating the lower, aqueous layer from the residual layer of acyl lactylate, or ii)b) extracting the fatty acid lactylate from the acidified raffinate into a second solvent which is immiscible with said aqueous raffinate, thereby obtaining an acyl lactylate solution.

The present invention is a process for preparing a sorbate ester comprising the steps of: a) contacting together in a reaction vessel a first organic solvent, sorbic acid, a catalytic amount of TiCl 4 , an anti-oxidant, and an alkylene oxide under conditions sufficient to form a mixture of the sorbate ester and residual water-soluble impurities; then b) separating the sorbate ester from the residual water-soluble impurities by washing. Sorbate esters can be prepared in an efficient and cost-effective manner by the process of the present invention.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Terephthalsäurediesters durch Umsetzung von Terephthalsäure mit wenigstens einem Alkohol, wobei man Terephthalsäure in einem Dispergierkessel im Alkohol suspendiert, die Vorsuspension aus dem Dispergierkessel in einen Reaktor leitetund in Gegenwart eines Veresterungskatalysators umsetzt, und Reaktionswasser als Alkohol-Wasser-Azeotrop mit dem Brüden abdestilliert, den Brüden zumindest teilweise kondensiert, das Kondensat in eine wässrige Phase und eine organische Phase trennt und die organische Phase über eine Kolonne führt, in der man der organischen Phase zumindest einen Teil des Brüden entgegenführt, dieorganische Phase im unteren Bereich der Kolonne sammelt und zumindest teilweise in den Dispergierkessel leitet.

A method for treating a substrate prior to a metathesis reaction includes treating the substrate with a first agent configured to mitigate potentially adverse effects of one or more contaminants in the substrate on a catalyst used to catalyze the metathesis reaction. The treating reduces a level of the one or more contaminants by an amount sufficient to enable the metathesis reaction to proceed at a substrate-to-catalyst molar ratio of at least about 7,500 to 1. Methods for metathesizing substrates are described.

A presente invenção trata de um processo para separação e/ou purificação do Biodiesel usando dióxido de carbono pressurizado. Pode ser aplicada em qualquer processo de produção de biodiosel usando qualquer fonte de matéria prima. O processo consiste em injetar CO2 10 a 50% de CO2 no sistema após a reação e aumentar a pressão do sistema numa faixa de 5 a 20 Mpa na temperatura ambiente. Duas fases se formam sendo a fase superior rica em biodiesel e álcool e a fase inferior formada por álcool, monoacilglicerol diacilglicerol, óleo não reagido, sais e glicerina. There is described a process for purifying the crude glycerol obtained from the production of fatty acid alkyl esters via transesterification. The process comprises the steps of; (a) adding an aqueous liquid to the crude glycerine composition to cause phase separation to produce at least two phases comprising an organic phase and an aqueous phase; (b) separating the organic phase from the aqueous phase; and (c) separating the fatty acid alkyl ester from the organic phase. When preferred amounds of aqueous liquid and temperature are used, it is possible to extract a significant amount of residual fatty acid alkyl ester from the crude glycerine composition.

Provided is a method for producing n-propyl acetate, which is capable of obtaining high-purity allyl acetate with a low amount of coexisting water and is capable of producing n-propyl acetate with a high yield. The method includes an extraction process of subjecting a raw material liquid containing allyl acetate and water to an extraction operation using water as an extraction solvent and separating the extract into an oily phase and an aqueous phase, a distillation process of distilling the oily phase to obtain a distillate containing allyl acetate as a main component, and a hydrogenation process of subjecting the distillate to a hydrogenation reaction.

Ein roher Ester einer Veresterungsreaktion, die mit einem metallhaltigen Veresterungskatalysator katalysiert ist, wird aufgearbeitet, indem man a) den rohen Ester bei einer Temperatur T von mehr als 100° C unter einem Druck p, der gleich oder größer ist als der Dampfdruck von Wasser bei der Temperatur T, mit einer wässrigen Base versetzt, b) das Ester-Base-Gemisch entspannt und Wasser abdampft, c) die erhaltene flüssige Phase unter Bildung einer Wasser-in-ÖI-Emulsion mit Wasser versetzt, d) aus der Emulsion Wasser abdestilliert und e) den Ester filtriert. Das Verfahren führt zu Estern mit niedriger Säurezahl und bei die festen Katalysator-Rückstände fallen in gut abfiltrierbarer Form an.
