Abstract:
Abstract:
There is provided methods for producing a hydrogel comprising conjugates of a hydrogel forming agent and a flavonoid including a method for producing a hydrogel that is capable of adhesion of cells and which comprises enzymatically cross-linked conjugates of a hydrogel forming agent and a flavonoid. There is also provided a method for producing a hydrogel comprising conjugates of a hydrogel forming agent and a flavonoid without the addition of an exogenous peroxide or peroxidase or without the addition of an exogenous peroxide. Hydrogels produced by such methods and methods of using the hydrogels are also described herein.
Abstract:
A method for producing a fiber-reinforced plastic substance from a thermoplastic or thermoelastic natural polymer or polymer blend with at least one natural polymer and natural fibers, characterized in that the natural polymer is pre-mixed in a particle form with natural fibers, the pre-mixture is fed to an injection press for plasticizing and the plasticized mixture is transferred to a casting mould via an outflow, a casting-on device or the like.
Abstract:
A privacy apparatus includes one or more substantially cork panels. Each panel can be configured to provide visual and/or sound privacy for a certain work space. The panel can be supported on a floor via one or more base elements and/or may be reinforced in rigidity and/or strength via one or more supports. Some embodiments of the apparatus can include a first panel and a second panel attached together via one or more supports press fit within openings defined in rear faces of the panels.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are lignin-furfuryl alcohol compositions, lignin-furfuryl alcohol-resole (LFR) compositions comprising lignin-furfuryl alcohol composition and phenolic resoles and LFR foams derived from such LFR compositions. Disclosed herein are LFR foams comprising a polymeric phase defining a plurality of open cells and a plurality of closed cells, and a gas phase comprising one or more blowing agents disposed in at least a portion of the plurality of closed cells, wherein the polymeric phase is derived from LFR compositions.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of producing reinforced composite containing fibre in a polymer matrix comprising the steps of: a. heating and drying a natural fibre-containing material in a hot blending chamber; b. sieving the dried natural fibre-containing material to produce a loose, soft and clean natural fibre free of contaminants and unwanted elements; c. shredding the fibre; d. pre-heating the shredded fibre; e. blending polymer, a nitrogen blowing agent a lubricant with the shredded fibre and optionally a coupling agent; and f. heating the blended mixture to the melting point of the polymer. Also provided is a composite produced by the method and a composite comprising a natural fibre-containing material, a polymer, a nitrogen blowing agent, a lubricant and optionally a coupling agent. Various modular constructions and a weighing assembly made from the composite are also provided.
Abstract:
Disclosed are foam compositions and processes to form closed-cell tannin-based foams. The foams comprises a continuous polymeric phase defining a plurality of cells, wherein the continuous polymeric phase comprises a tannin-based resin derived from a tannin and a monomer, wherein the monomer comprises furfural, glyoxal, acetaldehyde, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, acrolein, levulinate esters, sugars, 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid, 2,5-furandicarboxylic aldehyde, urea, difurfural (DFF), furfuryl alcohol, glycerol, sorbitol, lignin, or mixtures thereof, and wherein the plurality of cells comprises a plurality of open-cells and a plurality of closed-cells with an open-cell content measured according to ASTM D6226-5, of less than 50%. The foam composition also comprises a discontinuous phase disposed in at least a portion of the plurality of closed-cells, the discontinuous phase comprising one or more blowing agents.
Abstract:
A wax composition comprising a lignin derivative wherein the derivative has a total hydroxyl content of from about 0.1 mmol/g to about 7 mmol/g.
Abstract:
The present invention provides hardwood derivatives of native lignin having an aliphatic hydroxyl content of from about 5.2 mmol/g to about 7 mmol/g. Surprisingly, it has been found that consistent and predictable antioxidant activity may be provided by selecting for derivatives of native lignin having a certain aliphatic hydroxyl content.
Abstract:
A versatile method for the manufacturing of a natural fiber composite is provided, and a product thereof. The method, in accordance to the preferred embodiment, comprises crush-or impact grinding of fibrous feedstock, followed by classifying, mixing with diluting and/or bonding agent, optional foaming and shaping of the end product. A composite product manufactured by said method is provided. Treatment of fibrous feedstock by torrefaction may be utilized prior to crush-grinding in order to provide manufactured composites with novel properties. Natural fiber composite materials thus produced retain heat-, sound-and/or fire- insulating properties and may be utilized in different industries from automotive to decorative. The method is employed to re- utilize waste, recycled and side products of various industries, including forest, chemical-, mineral-and agro-industries.
