Processes are described for isomerizing one or more C4-C24 alpha olefins to produce an isomerization mixture comprising one or more C4-C24 internal olefins comprising contacting an olefinic feed comprising the one or more C4-C24 alpha olefins with a catalyst under isomerization conditions, wherein the catalyst comprises a microporous crystalline alummosilicate selected from the group consisting of ZSM-5, ZSM-23, ZSM-35, ZSM-11, ZSM-12, ZSM-48, ZSM-57, and mixtures or combinations thereof, and wherein the microporous crystalline aluminosilicate has a S1O2/AI2O3 molar ratio of less than or equal to about 100. The resulting isomerization mixture typically exhibits a lower pour point and maintained biodegradability properties as compared to the olefinic feed, and is particularly useful in drilling fluid and paper sizing compositions.

The catalyst comprises a Group VIII noble metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, iron, cobalt, and combinations thereof, on a support. The support can be silica, silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, metal modified silica, silica- pillared clays, silica-pillared micas, metal oxide modified silica-pillared mica, silica-pillared tetrasilicic mica, silica-pillared taeniolite, zeolite, molecular sieve, and combinations thereof. The catalyst composition is an active and selective catalyst for the catalytic oligomerization of alkenes to olefins and olefin derivatives.

Systems and methods are provided for upgrading refinery fuel gas and/or production of naphtha from refinery fuel gas. Initially, an olefin-containing feed can be exposed to conventional conditions for removing a portion of C 3 + compounds and a portion of sulfur-containing compounds. The olefin-containing feed can then be exposed to conversion conditions for the oligomerization of olefins present in the olefin-containing feed, producing an effluent that includes C 5 + olefins. The C 5 + olefins can be removed from the effluent, and the effluent can then be subjected to an amine wash to remove sulfur- containing compounds. The resulting product effluent includes a refinery fuel gas product having a controlled energy content.
