Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and compositions comprising at least one neutral metalloprotease enzyme that has improved storage stability. In some embodiments, the neutral metalloprotease finds use in cleaning and other applications. In some particularly preferred embodiments, the present invention provides methods and compositions comprising neutral metalloprotease(s) obtained from Bacillus sp. In some more particularly preferred embodiments, the neutral metalloprotease is obtained from B. amyloliquefaciens. In still further preferred embodiments, the neutral metalloprotease is a variant of the B. amyloliquefaciens neutral metalloprotease. In yet additional embodiments, the neutral metalloprotease is a homolog of the the B. amyloliquefaciens neutral metalloprotease. The present invention finds particular use in applications including, but not limited to cleaning, bleaching and disinfecting.

An apertured film web is disclosed. The web comprises a plurality of first regions (2) having a first molecular orientation and a plurality of second regions (4) having a second molecular orientation, the first and second regions being in an alternating and contiguous generally linear relationship in a first direction, the second molecular orientation being generally orthogonal to the first direction, and wherein the second region comprises openings defining apertures (6) therein.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of identifying a polypeptide, which method comprises the steps of (a) derivatization of the N-terminus of the polypeptide, or the N-termini of one or more peptides of the polypeptide, with at least one acidic reagent which comprises a sulfonyl moiety coupled to an activated acid moiety to provide one or more peptide derivatives; analyzing at least one such derivative using a mass spectrometric technique to provide a fragmentation pattern, and (c) interpreting the fragmentation pattern obtained, wherein the peptide or polypeptide is immobilized to a solid support at least during step(a). Furthermore, the present invention also relates to a kit for identifying a polypeptide by a mass spectrometric technique.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of identifying a polypeptide using a class of novel, water-stable reagents. More specifically, the method according to the invention comprises the steps of (a) derivatization in an aqueous solution of the N-terminus of the polypeptide, or the N-termini of one more peptides of the polypeptide, with at least one acidic reagent which comprises a sulfonyl moiety coupled to an activated acid moiety to provide one or more peptide derivatives; (b) analyzing at least one such derivative using a mass spectrometric technique to provide a fragmentation pattern; and (c) interpreting the fragmentation pattern. Furthermore, the present invention also relates to a kit and novel reagents for use in the present method.
Abstract:
Disclosed are absorbent articles, such as diapers, for the management of incontinence. Such articles utilize in their absorbent cores (50) a fluid acquisition/distribution component (51) and a fluid storage/redistribution component (52) maintained in fluid communication with the acquisition/distribution component. The fluid acquisition/distribution component (51) can be any porous hydrophilic, e.g., fibrous or foam-based material which will provide an initial Fluid Acquisition Rate of at least 2 ml of synthetic urine per second and will also preferably provide a 30-minute Vertical Wicking Height of at least 2 cm. The fluid storage/redistribution component (52) comprises a hydrophilic, flexible, open-celled polymeric foam having a free absorbent capacity of at least about 12 ml of synthetic urine per gram of dry foam and an absorbent capacity under a 5.1 kPa confining pressure which is at least 5 % of this free capacity. Preferred fluid acquisition/distribution component materials comprise chemically stiffened, twisted, curled cellulosic fibers. Preferred fluid storage/redistribution component materials comprise absorbent foams prepared by polymerizing a high internal phase emulsion (HIPE).
Abstract:
Perfume particles comprise perfume dispersed within certain water-insoluble nonpolymeric carrier materials and encapsulated in a protective shell by coating with a friable coating material. The coated particles allow for preservation and protection of perfumes which are susceptible to degradation or loss in storage and in cleaning compositions. Such perfume particles exhibit improved performance when they incorporate a modifier material according to this invention. In use, the surface coating fractures and the underlying carrier/perfume particles efficiently deliver a large variety of perfume types of fabrics or other surfaces.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a cleaning wipe suitable for cleaning a surface comprising a cleaning substrate, and microcapsules comprising an active ingredient. The majority of the microcapsules are located adjacent to at least one point on the perimeter of said cleaning substrate. The present invention also relates to (1) a cleaning kit suitable for cleaning a surface, comprising the cleaning wipe and a cleaning implement, and (2) a method of cleaning a surface, comprising the step of contacting the surface with the cleaning wipe.

Abstract:
A directional coupler sensor is provided for measuring the moisture content of a substrate, such as hair. The sensor incorporates a high frequency directional coupler having a pair of generally parallel plates defining a coupling gap therebetween. A high frequency signal generator generates an electromagnetic field across the gap with the substrate placed across the coupling gap. The coupled power relates to the moisture content of the substrate. A pressure sensor is provided to ensure that the desired compactness of the substrate across the coupling gap is achieved to obtain accurate, reliable and consistent results.
