Generally, the immunostimulatory compositions include at least partially purified conjugates that include at least one IRM moiety covalently coupled to an antigenic peptide. In some embodiments, the immunostimulatory composition includes monomeric conjugates. In other embodiments, the immunostimulatory composition includes an aggregate of a conjugate and at least one other antigenic peptide (e.g., another conjugate and/or unconjugated peptide). The present invention also provides methods of using such immunostimulatory compositions. The invention provides a Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 6B pneumococcal polysaccharide (6BPP) peptide mimetope, optionally conjugated to a carrier protein, capable of stimulating a protective immune response against pneumococcal infection. The invention further provides a monoclonal antibody against a 6B pneumococcal polysaccharide, and 6BPP-binding fragments thereof, capable of conferring passive immunity against pneumococcal infection. Also provided are compositions comprising said peptide mimetope, conjugate, mAb or binding fragment thereof. Mimetic peptides, conjugates thereof, mAb and 6BPP binding fragments according to the invention are provided as medicaments and in the manufacture of medicaments for the treatment of pneumococcal infection.
